Photo of the Day
This is AJ, age 10. He and his 4 younger siblings live with their grandmother. Their mother died and their father left with another woman. They have often dealt with feelings of abandonment. The grandmother loves and cares for them, but has very little income and cannot provide for all their needs. They often have no food in their home so the meals they receive as sponsored children are very important to them. Thank you for giving to help the children.
Here are notes we received from AJ and his brother Patrick:
From AJ: When my grandmother was sick for one week, we really had a great problem -- where can we get money to buy food. My father abandoned us after the death of my mother and we have received no support from him. Our grandmother is the one taking care of us. Sometimes we eat only two times a day and if we can buy one kilo of rice my grandmother would divide the food to all of us. I have four younger brothers left because my older brother and sister went to live to our relatives. That's why I am so thankful to the scholarship program for all your support to us.
From Patrick (age 8):
Even if my grandmother had the difficulty of providing for our food, she did not allow my aunt on my father's side to distribute us to our other relatives. She knew they had no care for us because we did not even receive just a little support from them, knowing that their brother who is our father abandoned us. If there is a truck owner who will drop by on our house to have his truck washed using our hose and faucet, they will pay us
30 pesos (about 80 cents). And that is our means of income and usually there are 3 to 4 trucks who will dropped by in a day. That's the time we can buy food and if there is extra, we can have our allowance in school. I thank the sponsor who provided for our school needs.
There are many children like AJ and Patrick who have no hope for the future unless they have some help. You can have a life-changing impact on them for only $30 a month per child.
