This handsome young man is Jolf, one of the children sponsored by FCM. Jolf lives on a mountain in the Philippines that looks like a paradise, but is a community of mostly very poor farmers. The only school in the community goes through 6th grade. After that, the children must go into the city to continue their education. Few of the families can afford to do that. Until FCM began sponsoring children from this remote mountain community, most went to school through 6th grade and no farther. They worked the farm, married very young and repeated the cycle. This year, with the help of Sponsors, Partners and Friends, FCM sponsors 50 children and young people in this community, 12 of whom are in college. Three have attended one of the best universities in the Philippines. It has transformed the community. Even elementary school children talk of going to college some day because they have seen their older siblings and friends go. It was not even a dream just a short time ago. Now it is something to strive to attain. They work hard to keep their grades up so they can qualify for scholarships and dream big dreams. This transformation is something you -- Sponsors, Partners and Friends -- have made possible.
Jolf is in 9th grade this year. He wants to become a soldier and join a peacekeeping force to protect his countrymen. Here is a note recently received from him: I am happy of my schooling because I did not encounter any problem in school. All my friends last year are also my classmate for this school year. In behalf of the sponsored students we would like to thank you especially the sponsors for being "AGENTS OF CHANGE." Truly our partnership impacted the lives of these children. A lot of children are attending our Sunday worship hoping that they will be sponsored someday.
