Emelie, the little girl reading the Bible story book is one of the newly sponsored children this year. She lives with her very poor family near a large fly-infested garbage dump. She is protectively holding her younger sister, age 3, who cannot walk or talk. The mother does not know the reason for the condition, but suspects it is the result of a fever the baby had when she was younger. She said she cannot take her to the doctor because she has no money and even if the doctor would see her for free it would be no good because she cannot buy the medicine that might be prescribed for her baby. Emelie dreams of being a doctor some day so she can help little children like her sister.
