May 10, 2014. This Sunday is Mother's Day, a national day of appreciation and honor. Most of us think our own mother is or was the very best of all mothers. Boaz, the spiritual father of Ruth, took some steps to certify and establish Ruth to be a woman of virtue among the people who knew her. Ruth bore a son to Boaz. That son, Obed, was the grandfather of the great King David. My wife Bev is a virtuous woman of excellence in every way it can be measured. May all who have mothered a child be honored and especially loved this Mother's Day.

Why are we doing what we do with the children in the Philippines? First, because God said to do it. But also because we believe God will use a new generation of young people like John (above) to bring transformation to the nation. Scripture says, "Ask me and I will give you the nations." We are asking. John never knew his father. His stepfather refused to pay for his education, but John is smart and earnestly desires to get an education. Though only 12, he knows education is the key to a successful future. He wants to be either a pilot or a doctor and he has the brain power to do either. Last fall the house where he lived was destroyed by a 7.2 earthquake. With the help of FCM ministry partners, we were able to assist in rebuilding it. Someday John will be a respected leader in his nation, one who knows God and who desires to see God as Lord over his nation. We do what we do for John and all the other children God has given to us.

There are countless numbers of children like John in the Philippines. They have potential, but need a helping hand. God could use you to change the life forever of a child like John. If you have considered sponsoring one or more children, now is the time. A new school year begins the first week of June and so many children and youth need our help if they are to stay in school. Would you pray and ask if God will have you be part of the transformation of lives and ultimately of a nation? 

Give to Food for Learning  -- Help feed hungry children in the Philippines. Any amount helps a lot.
