Congrats to The Panther:

Earlier this week the newspaper, The Panther, was named a finalist for National Scholastic Press Association's Pacemaker award.  The winners of the award will be announced in DC at the beginning of November.  This is a big deal because it means the work The Panther staff did under Brooke Samole and Lauren Bunce last year ranks best not only in the nation, but also in the world as thousands of staffs compete for the award around the world.

Our Ma Literary Magazine that accompanies the yearbook this week won 3 Gold Circle Awards from Columbia University's Scholastic Press Association:

Open (free) form poetry - Isabella White, "Linens," Ma, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Pinecrest, FL

Cover design - Alyssa Lanzas, Ma, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Pinecrest, FL;

Literary Multi-page presentation page design - Marissa Lanoff, Alyssa Lanzas and Sarah Young and Sarah Young, "Pages 5, 9, 11, 13, 15," Ma, Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Pinecrest, FL.

7 National Merit Semifinalists:

Miami Palmetto High School is the home of 7 National Merit Semifinalists!  We have the second highest number of NM Semifinalists in Miami-Dade County.  Once again, let's all recognize the excellence in our own backyard!

Students 16 and Older Can Pre-Register to Vote:

Registration Deadline Oct. 6 for November Election

Voting is one of the most important rights and responsibilities U.S. citizens have, yet turnout is usually low by young people. Pre-registration encourages them to start - and keep - voting. Political participation actually can be habit forming!

Students 16 and older can pre-register to vote in Florida and will automatically be added to voter rolls when they reach the federal voting age of 18. It's easy and convenient to pre-register at the DMV when your child is issued a driver's license.

If you missed this, you can register or pre-register using the application here. (Elizabeth, link to http://election.dos.state.fl.us/voter-registration/voter-reg.shtml ) Completed forms can be mailed to the address on the form or dropped off at a variety of locations, including any public library. Full instructions are on the form.

The Florida House Representatives for most MPSH families (District #114 and #115) are up for re-election. Find out your Representative here. (http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/sections/representatives/myrepresentative.aspx).
