APS Update
Last week in APS we said goodbye to our seniors as each group began the process of ending the year together. Students reflected on their collective experiences within the program and discussed how they have grown and changed over the course of the year. Each group revisited and answered all of the previous closure questions. Then students developed their own questions for each other and wrote responses to the other members of their group.
Students in Mrs. Vavala's APS group wrote the following questions: How can you be successful by trying something new? (Emily Whartnaby '14) How can forgiveness lead you to a brighter future? (Claire Conway '15) What do you believe makes a great leader? (Amy Horney '14) This week's closure question is: How can we embrace the future while keeping hold of the past? Action Alert--Travel Reimbursement Each year, parents who send their children to Catholic schools in Delaware save the state an estimated $150 million while supporting Delaware's public schools with their taxes. In return, the state gives these families a stipend to reimburse them for a small percentage of their transportation costs. Now, that stipend is in danger of elimination. We are asking that you take time each Wednesday in May (May 7, 14, 21, 28) to tell the governor and your representatives in the Delaware General Assembly that families who sacrifice to send their children to Catholic schools deserve to keep their transportation reimbursement stipend. Click here to take action. At the site, click on the arrow for Advocacy Campaign under the heading Actions and follow the directions to forward your message. Parent Volunteers Needed For Funnel Cake Booth St. Anthony's Italian Festival June 8th-15th Please consider volunteering just two or three hours of your time for this very fun and important fundraiser. Padua Academy has been in charge of the funnel cake booth for many years. We profited over $10,000 at last year's booth. A large percentage of that is designated to advance technology at the school. A smaller portion is donated to the After Prom Committee, but ALL is used for our students. We need batter help, fryers, sugar assistants, cashiers, and a clean-up crew. Again, please consider helping in this fun and profitable endeavor. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and free admission to the festival on the day they volunteer. This site is for adults only, students must register with Mrs. G. in the PE Office. If you have a t-shirt from previous years, please wear that when you volunteer. Please refer all questions to Mrs. Rainbow Shaw-Giaquinto at rshaw@paduaacademy.org. Click here for the online form. Men of Padua (MOP) Needed at St. Anthony's Italian Festival Your service is requested at St. Anthony's Italian Festival. We need your help at the Funnel Cake Booth on Friday, June 13th, from 5:00 PM-11:00 PM. If you are a Padua dad, uncle, or grandfather, then you are qualified! Please email Mrs. Rainbow Shaw-Giaquinto at rshaw@paduaacademy.org if you are able to volunteer for any portion of the night. Thank you in advance for supporting Padua Academy and the St. Anthony's Italian Festival.

The Track & Field team won the Division I State title this past Saturday, May 17 at Caesar Rodney High School. They broke the state record for the most points scored in a meet (192). This is the 5th State Championship for the 2013 - 2014 school year, breaking the school record of most state championships in one school year (last year - 4 State Championships).

The Padua Community celebrated the annual Closing Liturgy on Friday, May 16. The service included the passing of the class colors and a moving up ceremony.
We apologize for the difficulty with the live-streaming; be assured it will be working correctly for the graduation ceremony.

Urban Challenge
This past weekend, six Padua students participated in Romero Center's Urban Challenge program. Pictured left to right, Becca Brown, Morgan Sprinkle, Mia Pastore, Christine Barba, Olivia Bowman, and Kathleen Scopis spent three days in service to the residents of Camden. Scholarships and other announcements are posted on Facebook and emailed to students regularly.
Upcoming Events
Case Study & College Fair: May 22nd - at Salesianum School (sponsored by Padua, Ursuline, and Salesianum), 6:30 PM.
Parents
Parents of Juniors are asked to complete the Parent Questionnaire on Naviance. This questionnaire is designed to assist the counselors in the college process. Parents can log onto Naviance using their own login information (different than the student's login) to access the Parent Questionnaire.
An email will go out soon to gauge interest in hosting an SAT and/or ACT prep class at Padua in either late Summer or early Fall. The class will be run by Kaplan and held at Padua. Please keep an eye out for that information.
Seniors
Final transcripts will be sent to the college/university you will be attending in the Fall. You do not need to make a special request for this to happen. Transcripts will be finalized by mid-June and sent out after that time.
Thank you for your hard work and commitment this year. As the school year winds down, please know that your accomplishments have set the bar higher for the classes that follow you. If the Guidance office can assist you at any point after graduation, we are happy to do so.
Juniors
All junior year requirements should be completed at this point. You will receive feedback on your essay if you have not already. Mr. Lang will be available throughout the summer to continue the college process if you would like assistance. He will be available for individual meetings and will respond to phone calls and emails.
Please spend free time this summer visiting colleges and universities. To schedule a visit, call the college's admission office. The Guidance office can provide a list of questions to ask while visiting a college. Stop in the Guidance office or email your counselor for that list.
Sophomores and Freshmen
Final exams are quickly approaching. Begin collecting all study materials now to make the exam process easier. Gather all old quizzes, tests, study guides, homework assignments, and materials that will assist you in preparing for your final exams. Forms for those requesting special accommodations (including extended time) for final exams will be forthcoming within a week.
