Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!

books-apple-sm.jpg About the TSGL Newsletter: This monthly newsletter is e-mailed to all Trinity families during the school year. It contains helpful information regarding school events, calendar updates and other news. Please review each issue carefully, since it is often the only communication you will receive about some events or activities. The newsletter can also be found on the school website by clicking here.

A helpful hint when reading this newsletter: Please click on the underlined links for additional information. The links connect to the Trinity School website, other websites or to pdfs.
Uniforms
There is still a little bit of time to order new uniforms. If you order them by August 9, our school uniform supplier, Sports Image Apparel of Indiana, will deliver them to school by August 22. There are a couple of new uniform options. Be sure to check out the uniform guide on the website. It is on the drop-down menu under "Parents." You can click here to access both the uniform guidelines and the Sports Image Apparel page for ordering Trinity uniforms. Students are also free to wear Chaps or French Toast brand uniform pants and shorts.

Students whose uniform orders are not available before school begins should dress appropriately for orientation and the first weeks of classes. Girls should wear a dark skirt or dark uniform-style shorts and white blouses.  Boys should wear dark pants or dark uniform-style shorts and white shirts with collars. Parents should send a note to the appropriate dean if their child's uniform has been back-ordered. Requirements for shoes, socks and belts must be strictly observed.

Feel free to come and look through used uniforms at school any weekday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. They have all been donated. There will be no cost to you. Through August 24, the uniforms are being stored in Room 5.
2016-17 Academic Calendar
Be sure to stay up to date on Trinity School events by checking the website calendar regularly. Remember to transfer the details to your family calendar.
New Faculty
We have six new faculty this fall, but four of these people are returning to us. Mike Hamann taught at Trinity School for about ten years in the 1990s. He will be teaching part-time in the humanities. Nora Zusi, who taught at Greenlawn in the early years of the school, will also be teaching part-time in the humanities. Two alumnae, Katherine Couch and Alyson (Davenport) Greene will also be returning. Katherine recently graduated from Emory University with degrees in international and French studies, and she will be teaching humanities this fall. Alyson received her bachelor of arts degree in visual arts and interior design from Bethel College. She will primarily be teaching art studio this fall. Wendy Chapman will be teaching full-time in humanities and Scripture. Wendy has a bachelor of arts in English literature and French from Saint Mary's College as well as a master's in nonprofit administration from the University of Notre Dame. Finally, Jonathan Wheeler will be teaching full-time in the humanities. Jonathan has a bachelor of arts in classics from Saint Michael's College and a master of theological studies from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry.
2016-17 Administration and Staff
John Lee continues as head of school, Tom Finke as academic dean and Matthew Bartek as dean of boys. Dean of girls for grades nine through twelve is Bridget Feeks and dean of girls for grades seven and eight is Danielle Svonavec. Mark Hoover is the school administrator. Josh Caneff is admissions director with Beth Preuss assisting him. Gina Busk is director of community relations. Mike Gionfriddo is athletic director. Josh Kaiser is the director of college guidance and John Kurdelak is senior director of advancement. Mary Claire Caneff is director of alumni relations. Beth Couch, Kathleen Heinrich and Rita Kottkamp continue as administrative assistants.  They can all be reached at the school, 574-287-5590.
Important Forms
To simplify the return of necessary forms, we have condensed several into one general emergency card/permission form.  It will cover permission for your child(ren) to participate in both fall and spring field days and any class field trips planned for the 2016-17 school year. It will also serve as our emergency form so that we can contact you in case of injury or illness, and a medical release form so that your child may take over-the-counter medications that you choose to send to school.

All medicines, either prescribed or over-the-counter, need to be brought to school in the original container along with a note from the parent or doctor describing dosage.

Another form on the website is for those who may have severe allergic reactions.  We need the information you provide to assist your child in the case of a reaction at school.

Finally, there is a form that needs to be on file at school for anyone who will drive a car to school. Even if a student has driven to Trinity in the past, we need a current form. All these forms can be accessed on our website by clicking here.

Trinity School Directory
Our goal this year is to have the directory ready before the first week of school but we need your help. A form was mailed to you recently. Please look it over thoroughly and return it by August 7. Please note on the form any CHANGES in:
  • home address.
  • contact phone numbers.
  • email addresses.
Or email Ms. Heinrich at kheinrich@trinityschools.org with the corrections.
Parent Service Association
The Parent Service Association (PSA) supports Trinity by soliciting parental participation and involvement in the life of the school. We ask all parents to help with one school event and two social activities a year. Volunteers are always appreciated in the school office, too.

To facilitate that involvement, at the end of June we emailed volunteer forms to you using the online program SignUpGenius, asking that you sign up by July 15. If you have not seen it yet, you can access it by clicking here. Please let us know how you can serve in the 2016-17 school year. It is important that you respond as soon as possible. Because so many of you have responded, many slots have been filled. Most of the remaining events to be covered occur in the spring. Please scroll all the way to the end of the list to find those events. Thank you for your eagerness to support all of these activities and events.

Every month a list of coming events will be listed in the column to the left. Please check it to confirm when you are scheduled to serve. You will also receive a reminder from SignUpGenius about ten days before your event.

As always, we thank you for your commitment to Trinity School. Your children will benefit by your involvement.
New Parent Orientation

We are delighted to welcome seventh-grade students, transfer students and all new Trinity School families.  The Trinity School Parent Service Association invites you to an orientation session on Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., where you will meet members of the faculty and other Trinity School parents.  The schedule for the day includes presentations on helping your child become a Trinity School student, the seventh-grade curriculum, study skills, policies and procedures, parental involvement in Trinity School, and student social life.  Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to noon.  Please RSVP to the school office at 287-5590 to let us know if you will attend.

This event is for parents only.  Orientation for new students will be held Wednesday, August 24.
Lockers at Trinity School
backpack-sm.jpg
All books, bags, binders, notebooks, coats, etc. must be kept inside a student's locker. Please consider this when making purchases. If students decorate the interior of their lockers, we prefer that they use magnets or Command strips.  Please avoid tape, which is hard to clean off.

Also note that the lockers at Trinity School are narrow.
They measure 13 inches deep and 11 3/4 inches wide. The locker opening is only 8 1/2 inches wideTake this into consideration when purchasing locker shelves or other items.

ruler.jpg School Supplies

The school supply list is available on our website. Click here to access it. Plan to stock up while sales are going on. Paper, notebooks, folders and even calculators are offered at very good prices in summer months.

Books

When students begin classes on Thursday, August 25, books will have been distributed to their classrooms and they will be ready to go.

Invoices for books and fees will be mailed soon, requesting payment by August 20. You can pay in full or by credit card or sign up to pay these fees using the FACTS payment program. Details will be included with the invoice.

As always, if you have questions do not hesitate to call the school, 574-287-5590.

Lunch Boxes and Water Bottles books-apple-icon2.jpg

Trinity's Environmental Club would like to encourage all students to consider using reusable lunch boxes and water bottles this year. Using reusable lunch materials reduces paper and plastic waste, and is a more sustainable option than paper bags or plastic bottles. Reusable water bottles must be clear and have a closeable top. Reusable lunch boxes and water bottles can be found at almost any supermarket or retail store.

School Hours and Study Hall
The south door to the school building will open at 7:30 each morning.  Students who arrive in the morning between 7:30 and 7:50 should enter through that door.  They should go directly downstairs to the locketeria.  They will be supervised there until 7:50, when the front door and the rest of the building will be opened.

The after-school study hall will be open from 3:30 to 5:00 each schoolday, except Tuesdays and Fridays.  To enable all faculty members to attend faculty meetings, the building will close at 3:30 every Tuesday and Friday. On a few other occasions throughout the year, the study hall will have to be closed for faculty seminars and meetings.  Announcements of those closings will be made well in advance to allow parents to make necessary arrangements.  Study hall will begin the first full week of classes on Monday, August 29.
Parent Consent and Physical Forms for 2016-17 Sports

Completed consent forms and physical forms for fall sports were to be in the office by July 1. Coaches are under strict guidelines not to let students practice if they do not have a current consent form and physical form on file. If you are new to Trinity, please bring your athletic forms as soon as possible.

All current forms can be found on our website by clicking here

Please feel free to contact our athletic director, Mr. Gionfriddo, mgionfriddo@trinityschools.org, with your questions.
