New Faculty and Staff, 2016-17
In the event that you missed the original mailing, the following is a copy of a letter sent June 20.

Dear Parents,

I am writing to tell you about some changes to our faculty and staff for this upcoming year. Some outstanding teachers have moved on to new things in their lives and we are sad to see them go, but I am very excited about the new people we have hired.

Linda Porto has retired from teaching, but she will retain some master teacher responsibilities in Latin this next year. Brian Couch will be attending a one-year graduate program at Harvard University in independent school leadership. Kelci Schmidt has decided to pursue law school, but she will continue to assist Dennis Staffelbach with our Mock Trial program. Kim DeCelles is moving to Colorado Springs, where she will continue to teach at The Thomas MacLaren School, a charter school founded by two Trinity School at Greenlawn alumnae. Bridget Donohue, our longtime Humane Letters nine teacher, will be stepping back from her teaching duties at Greenlawn to assist Kerry Koller, president of Trinity Schools, Inc., full-time in his office. John Kurdelak will also be moving from teaching part-time to working with Greenlawn full-time in our institutional advancement efforts. If you have a chance, please thank all these folks for the great work they have accomplished in their time teaching and working for Trinity School at Greenlawn.

We have six new faculty this fall, but four of these people are returning to us. Mike Hamann taught at Trinity School for about ten years in the 1990s. He is currently working as the St. Joseph County auditor and will be teaching part-time in the humanities. Nora Zusi will also be teaching part-time in the humanities. She taught at Greenlawn for a time during our early years as a school. Two alumnae, Katherine Couch and Alyson (Davenporte) Greene will also be returning. Katherine recently graduated from Emory University with degrees in international and French studies, and she will be teaching humanities this fall. Alyson received her bachelor of art degree in visual arts and interior design from Bethel College. She will primarily be teaching art studio this fall. Wendy Chapman will be teaching full-time in humanities and Scripture. She and her husband David have a son, Corin, going into the tenth grade at Trinity this fall. Wendy has a bachelor of arts in English literature and French from Saint Mary's College as well as a master's in nonprofit administration from the University of Notre Dame. Finally, Jonathan Wheeler will be teaching full-time in the humanities. Jonathan has a bachelor of arts in classics from Saint Michael's College and a master of theological studies from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry.

On the administrative side, I mentioned above that John Kurdelak will be working full-time heading up our advancement work. Josh Caneff will be our new director of admissions as Brian Couch heads to graduate school. Josh has been working in marketing and admissions for all three Trinity Schools for the past couple of years. He has a bachelor of arts in English from the University of Portland.

As always, if you have any questions please contact me. I pray that you and your family have a blessed and rejuvenating summer. Please pray for all of Trinity School at Greenlawn's work this summer.

Sincerely,

John A. Lee

Hosting International Students

Is your family interested in hosting an international
student who will attend Trinity School during the  2016-17 school year? Host families receive a stipend each month for hosting a student. Please contact Mr. Caneff, ext. 255, through the school office if you would like to learn more: 574-287-5590.airplane-globe.jpg
Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Students:
Are you eligible to get free college tuition through the 21st Century Scholars program?

The 21st Century Scholars program began in 1990 as Indiana's way of raising the educational aspirations of low- and moderate-income families. The program aims to ensure that all Indiana families can afford a college education for their children.

Income-eligible students in grades six, seven and eight who enroll in the program and fulfill a pledge of good citizenship to the state are guaranteed the cost of four years of undergraduate college tuition at any participating public college or university in Indiana. If the student attends a private institution, the state will award an amount comparable to that of a public institution. If the student attends a participating proprietary school, the state will award a tuition scholarship equal to that of Ivy Tech Community College.

For more information and the online application, visit their site. The deadline for registration for eighth-graders was June 30, but you can take a look at it now to sign up for next year. Several Trinity School graduates have taken advantage of this scholarship program over the years. Please contact Dr. Kaiser at jkaiser@trinityschools.org, or 574-287-5590, ext. 273, if you have specific questions.
A Great Opportunity to Support Trinity Students
SGO scholarships help many of our students with the cost of attending Trinity School. We have partnered with the Sagamore Institute, a scholarship granting organization (SGO) based in Indianapolis, to create a fund that goes toward providing students with scholarships to attend Trinity. Individuals or businesses that donate to the Trinity Fund receive a 50% state tax credit, as well as the normal federal charitable deduction. For instance, someone donating $10,000 would receive a $5,000 Indiana state tax credit and a federal deduction. The Trinity Fund needs donations for the upcoming school year. If you or someone you know is interested in helping provide income-eligible students the opportunity to attend Trinity School, please contact John Kurdelak at  jkurdelak@trinityschools.org

School Supplies

Grades Nine and Ten Music Students
Students in grades nine and ten music classes will perform in a choir, which will require special dress uniform attire. The girls' dress will cost $58. The boys' outfit, which consists of a dress shirt, slacks and tie, will be $45. Those prices do not include tax and shipping charges. Students will be measured and try on samples after the school year begins and Ms. Svonavec will place the order. Something to keep in mind--the clothing will require hemming after it arrives.

The styles will be the same as last year.  If you want to purchase clothing from a former tenth-grade student, that is an option you can pursue on your own.

New Parent Orientation

We are delighted to welcome seventh-grade students, transfer students and all new Trinity School families.  The Trinity School Parent Service Association invites you to an orientation session on Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., where you will meet members of the faculty and other Trinity School parents.  The agenda will include presentations on helping your child become a Trinity School student, the seventh-grade curriculum, study skills, policies and procedures, parental involvement in Trinity School, and student social life.  Lunch will be served.  Please RSVP to the school office at 287-5590 to let us know if you will attend.

This event is for parents only.  Orientation for new students will be held Wednesday, August 24.  More information about the student orientation will follow in the August bulletin.
welcome-family-banner.jpg Parent Service Association
The Parent Service Association (PSA) supports Trinity by soliciting parental participation and involvement in the life of the school. We ask all parents to help with one school event and two social activities a year. Volunteers are always appreciated in the school office, too.

To facilitate that involvement, at the end of June we emailed volunteer forms to you using the online program SignUpGenius, asking that you sign up by July 15. If you have not seen it yet, you can access it here. Please let us know how you can serve in the 2016-17 school year. It is important that you respond as soon as possible. If you do not volunteer, we will assign you where you are most needed.

In August, we'll send you a list of 2016-17 event volunteers. You will also receive reminders throughout the school year about ten days before an event for which you volunteered. Thank you in advance for your generous support!
2016-17 Academic Calendar Mr. Finke and Students
A basic calendar for the 2016-17 academic year is in the column to the left.  The events are also on the website calendar.

basketball-banner.jpg Parent Consent and Physical Forms for 2016-17 Sports

Completed consent and physical forms for fall sports need to be in the office by Friday, July 1. Coaches are under strict guidelines not to let students practice if they do not have a current consent form and physical form on file. If there is an  issue with  your insurance that only allows one physical per year, please have your physical scheduled as close as possible to the previous year's date.
