Back to School Family Funfest

The Strengthening Families Program at the A&M AgrilLIfe Extension Service is hosting the annual Back to School Family Funfest on Tuesday, August 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Aldersgate Methodist Church in College Station. This event serves as a free resource fair for families in the Brazos Valley. Join us as we welcome internationally recognized author and military Historian Mike Guardia as he discusses his newest book, "The Fires of Babylon: Eagle Troop and the Battle of 73 Easting." A veteran of the United States Army, Guardia served six years on active duty as an Armor Officer. Following Mr. Guardia's talk, we will have a reception in the rotunda, where you will have an opportunity to purchase his book and have it signed. Our League currently has 174 volunteers and last year alone invested approximately $130,000 back into the community by funding various projects. The BV Coalition for the Homeless and the Brazos County Health Department will be hosting a human trafficking training.  Two training opportunities will be available-one for social service agencies and one for healthcare providers. 2016 Chalk Talk for Women Benefiting Twin City Mission

The Texas A&M Football Chalk Talk for Women returns in 2016 with host Aggie head football coach Kevin Sumlin. Ladies 18 years of age and older are invited to attend this event which is set for Wednesday, July 27. Casual, comfortable attire with tennis shoes is suggested. Registration is online at www.12thMan.com/chalktalk. Registration will close Sunday, July 24 at midnight. Proceeds from the event and the silent auction will benefit Twin City Mission.

Free Grief Workshops Offered by College Station Medical Center

The College Station Medical Center's Senior Circle will be offering a free series of grief workshops open to the public. Participants will receive a journal and DVD to accompany the program, which is led by counselor Brandi Riley of Visiting Angels and speaker and author Mary Margaret Mann. The workshops take place over a period of five weeks and cover approaches to grieving and dealing with sorrow. Better Choices, Better Health: Diabetes is a six week two-hour program that helps those living with pre-diabetes or diabetes and their support person to improve their general health by learning to find practical ways to deal with symptoms of diabetes, discover better nutritional and exercise choices, and find better ways to talk to your doctor and family about your health. Chronic Pain Self-Management Program

The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program is a FREE, 6-week, two-hour workshop that helps participants, and their support person deal with the ongoing issues associated with chronic pain.
