To have information considered for inclusion in the Digest, please submit it to [email protected] no later than 5:00 pm Tuesdays. All events posted are for the following week, events submitted for the same week will not be included in the Digest.
Inclusion in the Digest is at the sole discretion of 2-1-1 Texas/United Way of the Brazos Valley and is dependent on their guidelines.

Public Meeting for the City of Bryan     


The City of Bryan Community Advisory Committee will conduct a regular public meeting regarding regular agenda items and two public hearings. The public hearings will start with staff presentations on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Grant (HOME), the planning process, including the availability of the Public Facility application. Any agency, organization, coalition, family or individuals are highly encouraged to attend to make comments on community needs, specifically needs for low and moderate income households and special needs populations. This meeting will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 6 pm at the City of Bryan Municipal Building Basement Training Room, 300 South Texas Avenue in Bryan. The Financial Fitness Center has a full schedule of upcoming workshops that are open to the public. The Financial Fitness Center provides these workshops in the Brazos Valley with the mission to transform the financial stability of individuals and families. The workshops center on financial coaching to develop healthy financial habits, build or increase savings, acquire assets, and plan for the future. There is no cost to the participants. Below are listed the dates and locations of upcoming workshops:

Pink Alliance Breast Health and Cancer Grants

Pink Alliance, the Brazos Valley's breast health and cancer support organization, is accepting applications for breast health and cancer support grants of up to $30,000 for programs and initiatives that will support the organization's mission of providing informative resources and offering medical treatments to those with limited means in the Brazos Valley. The 2016 Pink Alliance Grant Initiative will consider funding requests to support effective, established programs or to help launch innovative new programs. Entities eligible to apply for a grant from Pink Alliance include hospitals or medical facilities and non-profit organizations providing mammograms, diagnostic services and prostheses/bras to eligible persons. Pink Alliance will consider grants for mammograms, diagnostic mammography services, biopsies, sonograms, MRIs, breast prostheses/bras, and breast health educational initiatives for eligible residents in the Brazos Valley region (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington Counties). State Employee Charitable Campaign Applications Open

The Local Employee Committee of the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) is accepting applications from local charitable organizations for the 2016 Brazos Valley Area SECC Campaign through United Way of the Brazos Valley, Local Campaign Manager. The applications are accepted from charitable organizations in the Brazos Valley campaign area, serving Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, and Washington counties. To receive an application packet for the SECC, contact United Way of the Brazos Valley at (979) 696-4483 x 113. Applications may be mailed or delivered to the United Way of the Brazos Valley. All applications must be received by Friday, March 25, 2016 before 5 pm. Faxed or emailed documentation will not be accepted. The United Way Youth Leadership Cabinet is excited to announce the release of their Mini-Grant Application. The application is open to all 501c3 nonprofits in the seven-county Brazos Valley Region. The Youth Leadership Cabinet comprises 29 passionate high-school students in the Bryan/College Station area looking to create a positive impact in their community through United Way of the Brazos Valley. The cabinet held fundraisers throughout the fall at local elementary, middle school and high school campuses as well as hosted United We Roll and Pass-the-Bucket events.

Applications can be downloaded at www.uwbv.org then faxed, mailed, or delivered to the United Way of the Brazos Valley. The applications are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 and grants will be awarded in April after the review process. Dining in the Dark

It is time again for the annual Dining in the Dark, Brazos Valley Center for Independent Living's only fundraising event! A room submerged in complete darkness; light-less and uncompromising. You reach for your fork but hit your glass instead. Your optic nerve is rendered totally useless and you have to rely on your other senses to guide you. Your hearing peaks, your taste becomes piquant, your touch more delicate. Your nose betrays your lips with every bite of the secret menu items. A considerately and vigilantly set up multi-course meal will amaze you with every bite as you dip into each dish and discover the difference your eyes can make. A challenge that is sure to keep you on your toes and your mind reeling with anticipation! Test your skills and see if you can guess what you are eating before concluding with the chef's menu reveal. Tickets are on sale beginning Tuesday, March 1. Tickets can be purchased online at bvcil.org/about-dining-in-the-dark/. Tickets may also be purchased in person at BVCIL, located at

Bra Art entries can incorporate any medium. Bra Art will be displayed during the month of April. The live auction and silent auctions will be held on April 27. Information and Referral Specialist - 2-1-1 Texas

Strengthening Families of the Brazos Valley (SFBV) is a project at Texas A&M AgriLIfe Extension within the Family Development and Resource Management department that provides couples and individuals with the tools they need to create and maintain healthy families. They are seeking a Marketing Coordinator to develop and implement a comprehensive outreach and marketing campaign, which will cover Burleson, Brazos, Grimes, Madison, and Robertson counties. This position will develop print, media, and social marketing tools; develop brand awareness and content strategy; analyze appropriate social data, metrics, and trends; and report on all marketing activities and results.
