TOPS Transportation
We provide transportation
services to qualifying seniors for medical appointments. For elderly seniors and those with significant vision or other physical limitations, the service can include a 1-on-1 service feature, whereby the senior is not only transported to the appointment, but has someone stay with them to assist with note taking and paperwork.
Call our TOPS (Transportation Options Program for Seniors) Program Manager
for details.

Combined Federal Campaign
Federal employees can support Senior Services North Fulton, CFC #30561, in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is the largest annual workplace campaign, raising millions of dollars each year for thousands of non-profits who help so many people in need of assistance. The CFC is a wonderful way for federal workers to support older adults and their families who need Meals on Wheels, transportation, or supportive in-home services such as personal care assistance, homemaker services and respite. All CFC contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. |

Greetings!
We are very excited about the opening of the Milton Senior Center. Milton is our fourth center and it is a partnership between Senior Services North Fulton, the City of Milton, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Office of Aging, and Community of Christ Church. I am pleased to introduce to you our Center Manager Melinda Ross. Please come by and meet Melinda and allow her to welcome you to our newest community resource for north Fulton seniors.
I know you will enjoy this latest edition of our newsletter. There are many stories about how we - together - are serving older adults in north Fulton. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, corporate, municipal and faith partners, grantors, donors, staff and board members. It truly takes a village, and our village is a community that cares.
Have a wonderful summer,
Carrie Bellware

Milton Center Now Open
We are pleased to announce that the Milton Senior Center opened Monday, June 24, at Community of Christ Church.
The Senior Center, located at 3315 Francis Road (click here for directions) provides active seniors, age 60 and up, the opportunity to socialize and maintain special relationships, enjoy weekly trips, exercise, dance, table games and much more.
Members of Milton's City Council and staff from Senior Services North Fulton and Community of Christ Church joined Liz Hausmann (right, in white and blue) at the new Milton Senior Center.
The hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Transportation is provided to and from the center, and a hot lunch is provided to everyone thanks to $295,000 secured by Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann to open and maintain the senior center.
For more information on the Senior Center and its programs, contact Melinda Ross, Manager of the Milton Senior Center, at 470-554-0758 or mross@ssnorthfulton.org. |
Milton Center Wish List
Pay it Forward
We have compiled a wish list for our new Milton Senior Center. Your donations create a home away from home for seniors, giving them a reason to get out of the house and socialize.

We need:
Mahjong games, scrabble games, checkers, decks of cards, automatic card shufflers, gently used books, hand weights, arts and crafts supplies and Bingo prizes.
We can also use cases of water and sports drinks, napkins, paper cups, dishwasher detergent, dish washing liquid and large hand sanitizers.

Volunteers for Bingo callers, educational presenters, fitness instructors, arts and crafts instructors and musical entertainers
are always welcome!
All donations may be dropped off at the church, located at 3315 Francis Road. To inquire about volunteering, contact Melinda Ross at 470-554-0758 or by email at mross@ssnorthfulton.org. |
Getting Around Can Be Difficult
We Found a Way to Make it Easier
We are so excited to now offer non-medical transportation. Our new grant funded GATE (Getting Around Town Easily) voucher program allows north Fulton seniors to purchase vouchers that can be used for a driver of their choice.
Along with doctors' visits, seni ors who don't drive also need the ability to pick up prescriptions, grocery shop, visit the bank, or simply get a haircut.
For more information,
contact Candace Kortovich, Mobility Manager, at 770-993-1906 ext. 242. |

We are Very Fortunate
And Would Like to Say a Special Thank You
For the special people and organizations who help support what we do. We want you to know who they are, because they deserve recognition, and our thanks.

Kimberly-Clark recently donated all new chairs for the Crabapple Senior Center, a piano for the Sandy Springs Senior Center, outfitted our entire office staff with much needed desk chair replacements, completed our new break area with tables and seating to match, and delivered locking file cabinets to our senior centers.
SA IT Services in nearby Roswell adopted us through the Techbridge Adopt-a-Nonprofit Program. Through this program, SA IT Services provides skilled IT support with their staff volunteers. This not only helps offset our IT managed services costs, but adds another layer of reliable help and peace of mind.
BB&T Insurance Services selected Senior Services North Fulton for their Lighthouse Project. They supported the purchase of special insulated totes, emergency meals, thermal route bags, supplies and a new Meals on Wheels freezer for our corporate office.
BB&T Insurance Services employees also provided over 40 volunteer hours with the MOW program and at the Alpharetta Senior Center to experience our programs and services first hand.
These acts of giving help us to provide more services to more people. |

Great Days of Service
Spring and summer mean warmer weather, flowers blooming, and for many of our seniors, extra stress over the state of their homes and yards. Our Senior Centers also see this time of year as a time of renewal and special events. Thanks to the generosity of groups like Alpharetta First Baptist Church, AutoTrader.com, BB&T Insurance Services, Comcast Advertising Division, Kimberly-Clark, Leadership Sandy Springs and UPS, we were able to offer what we call Great Days of Service. Groups visit our Senior Centers or a senior's home, providing support, supplies and doing projects that are too big or are outside the scope of our normal services.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who support our Senior Centers and clients. Without you, we couldn't provide the enhanced quality of life our seniors need. |

Making a Difference
Mr. and Mrs. G. were recenty visited by Kimberly-Clark employees. The G.'s live in
an in-law apartment. They are proud to have raised their three children, and when their son died overseas, they raised his children. Now due to multiple health issues, Mr. G. requires 24 hour care, which is provided by his daughter and wife - who herself is recovering from a stroke.
The volunteers from Kimberly-Clark mowed the lawn, weeded, and provided flowering planters that are easily maintained and look beautiful on the patio, where the couple loves to spend time.
Mrs. G. and her daughter were teary-eyed when thanking the volunteers. These much needed improvements would have been impossible without help.

It's More Specific Than Just General Legal Services for the Elderly...
What is an Elder Care Attorney?
By: Miles P. Hurley, JD, CELA*
I get quite a few strange looks when I tell people I practice elder law. "Do you mean you are an attorney for the elderly"? "Yes," I say "but it's more specific than just general legal services for the elderly." I explain that an elder law attorney limits his practice to the issues that surround aging, including retaining independence, quality of life and financial security.
Today's seniors are living longer than ever before, and longer life spans create a new set of legal concerns. Read more.....
