We provide transportation
services to qualifying seniors for medical appointments. For elderly seniors and those with significant vision or other physical limitations, the service can include a 1-on-1 service feature, whereby the senior is not only transported to the appointment, but has someone stay with them to assist with note taking, paperwork and so forth.
The 1-on-1 feature is currently not available for seniors who need an electric wheelchair lift.
Call our TOPS (Transportation Options Program for Seniors) Program Manager for details.

Combined Federal Campaign
Federal employees can support Senior Services North Fulton, CFC #30561, in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is the largest annual workplace campaign, raising millions of dollars each year for thousands of non-profits who help so many people in need of assistance. The CFC is a wonderful way for federal workers to support older adults and their families who need Meals on Wheels, transportation, or supportive in-home services such as personal care assistance, homemaker services and respite. All CFC contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. |

Greetings!
The last few months have been an incredibly busy, and exciting time, for Senior Services North Fulton. We settled in to our new offices in Alpharetta, introduced our new logo and branding, hired several incredible new staff members, finalized our three year strategic plan and held a fabulously successful fundraiser in February. And we are just getting started ...
March brings our Meals on Wheels Awareness month and all the activity and advocacy that promotes this vital community service. We are also working with the City of Milton on the opening of our newest senior center. And our Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 28 from 3:30-5:30. I hope you will join us. Come and meet our staff and board members and see our beautiful new home. 2013 is going to be a very good year.
Thank you for all your support and good wishes,
Carrie Bellware

Heart & Soul Gala 2013
Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors, volunteers and staff, and planning committee, who helped make our Heart & Soul fundraiser on February 16, 2013 a huge success.
A special thank you to Sharon Lockwood, our event honoree. Sharon charmed our guests with her warmth, engaging personality and enthusiasm for our mission. The event generated approximately $75,000 to help us deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors in need, arrange for rides to their medical appointments and provide critical in-home services.

Pictured here are Sharon Lockwood, Wayne Boston and Amanda Quintana - friends and members of Milton's Better Together committee. |
We are so proud of our holiday Angel Tree Program. Thank you to the students, parents and staff from Mountain Park Elementary School for another year of sharing with our seniors. Together all of these wonderful people contributed 1,508 hours of time to ensure Senior Services North Fulton's seniors were remembered for the holidays. Thank you, thank you, and thank you, to all 741 volunteers! |

A Friend in Need, Needs a Friend Indeed
Mrs. W., an alert 89 year old, had to give up driving. She lives by herself in her home of many years. Still very active, she loves to go out, but her one son often has to travel out of the country on business. Mrs. W.'s Care Manager suggested a Friendly Visitor in October 2011. Dawn has been visiting Mrs. W. every Friday ever since.
Mrs. W. loves Dawn and their time together. "She is a doll! She appears every Friday morning with a smile on her face and asks "What are we going to do today?" "The main thing is getting groceries. I trail along and she puts everything in my cart. Then other little errands like the bank and post office, and then we go to lunch. It is a beautiful Friday and I look forward to it. She is wonderful and dedicated to this visit. I don't want to lose her! We love each other. She is like a daughter to me. "
Dawn feels the same about Mrs. W. "I think the world of her. We are family now. I didn't grow up with grandparents and have an affinity for seniors, so I volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program to help where I could. Now as a Friendly Visitor, Mrs. W. and I have great fun when we go out. I think it is very important for her to maintain her independence. She is thankful she has me to help her. She doesn't have to ask her son or other friends for continual assistance. And Mrs. W. is so witty - she cracks me up. I would adopt her if I could - I love her to pieces!"
If you are interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor, call our office at 770.993.1906 and speak with Deena Takata. We would love to have you join our family! |

Staff Corner
We recently said our farewells to two staff members who have moved on to new challenges.
Lou Ann Kraus, R.N., our Health and Wellness coordinator of 5+ years, has retired to spend more time with her aging parents and her young grandchildren. We miss Lou Ann's easy smile and kind heart.
Rosa Gangone, Center Assistant at our Crabapple Senior Center for more than nine years, has also decided to spend more time with her family though she still volunteers at the center. Rosa's gentle, easy going personality will be missed at Crabapple.
Heidi Sowder, recently our Volunteer Program Manager, has moved to our Crabapple location as the new Senior Center Assistant.
Taking Heidi's place is Deena Takata, our new Volunteer Program Manager.
We also welcome Candace Kortovich as our GATE Transportation Voucher Program Manager.
Ron Harlow, Assistant Director, is a former board member, with over 15 years of leadership experience at Georgia-Pacific.
Come and meet our team during our Open House! |

Roswell Senior Center Art Show
Roswell Senior Center's first annual art show and silent auction was held in October. In-house artists presented their works for the first time.
Toby Smallwood, Supervisor and arts instructor for the Roswell Adult Recreation Center on Grimes Bridge Road, was the judge. With four categories and almost thirty entries, he had some difficult decisions to make.

Best Painting, Zulma Caldeiro, for "Lighthouse";

Best Mixed Media, Flo Neveu, for "Picnic on the Chattahoochee";
Most Creative Use of Materials, Oplean Craig, for "Desert Canyon"

Best of Show,
Sarla Mody, for "Scenes from the Desert".
All participants in the arts and crafts program received a certificate for Mastery of Materials, and winners received recognition and gift cards.
The silent auction began after the judging, and continued through October 9. The money raised by the auction will be used to purchase additional art supplies for the center. Art supplies are always welcome. Brushes, large picture frames with the glass intact (14 x 16 or larger), acrylic and oil art paints, ceramic glass paints, construction paper, and coffee table books with floral or outdoor scenes.

Sandy Springs Seniors Prepare for Spring

Volunteers from Auto Trader.com brought all the needed supplies for the participants at the Sandy Springs senior center to decorate eggs for Easter.
There are many at the center who enjoy the arts and crafts program.

From oragami to pottery, basket making to jewelry, egg decorating is another of their many talents. All of these activities keep them engaged and enjoying their time at the center.
These are impressive! |
