      PRINCIPAL'S  MESSAGE :

Dear Parents,

November is the month of Remembrance.  It is our time to remember and honour all those soldiers who gave their lives for our Freedom and those who worked tirelessly in other fields to support the war effort.  It should also be a time that we remember God and His son Jesus and what our Catholic Faith has given us and could do for us.

On this Remembrance Day, God calls us to be peacemakers and peace-bringers. Especially these days and in light of the recent tragedies, may we carry with us a renewed commitment to be people of peace. May all who gather on this day and in the days that follow, in communities large and small become activists for peace and justice at home, school and abroad.

Help us to remember the importance of seeking peace, true peace, and that this peace can only come from the changed hearts of our children. May the Holy Spirit guide our children to peace and that we never forget that the cost of peace's absence has already been far too high.

God of peace who surpasses all our understanding, we pray our remembrances and our hopes in the name of the one called Prince of Peace, Jesus the Christ, who taught us how us above all the LOVE is the most important commandment.  Love one another, as I have loved you.

So during this month of November, let us remember, praise and honour the sacrifices many soldiers, workers and God gave us so that we would have the freedom to live our Faith and our lives freely.

God Bless,

M.Schreider

poppy  REMEMBRANCE DAY:

Our Remembrance Day Liturgy was held on Tuesday, November 11 at 10:45 a.m. in the school gym. Our Remembrance Day Liturgy is a time for the students and staff to remember those who served their country during wartime and to pray for peace in our troubled world. It is also a time to remember how these brave soldiers and all who served in different capacities gave their lives and work tirelessly so that we can enjoy the freedoms we now enjoy.  The freedom to practice our faith, the freedom to vote and our freedom to live the lives we chose. Poppies were sold on Tuesday November 11 and donations were for the Royal Canadian Legion.

Thank you to all parents and grandparents who were able to attend our ceremony. A special thank you to Ms. Chiota, Mrs. Bourassa  and their students for doing a wonderful job organizing and speaking. As well, a special thanks to M. Lapointe for assisting with the organization and the slide show.
   SCHOOL HEADLINES:

Sports at Corpus Christi:
In September, Corpus Christi attended the girls and boys soccer tournament that was held at McMaster Catholic School.  Both teams enjoyed the day by playing 5 games each and having fun.  The sun was shinning, the students were smiling and good sportsmanship was displayed throughout the day.  It was nice to have some parents out cheering us on and supporting both teams.

We are now well underway with Intramurals at lunch.   For the month of November some Grades 4-6 students are playing ball hockey and Lacrosse during the lunch hour.  The next upcoming interscholastic team sport is Lacrosse.  Corpus Christi will have a  Girl's Lacrosse team and a Boys Lacrosse team.  The tournament dates are December 4th (girls) and 11th (boys).

Service:
Once again, our students put those in need first by collecting over 500 cans of food for the Centretown Emergency Food Centre in the month of October in our Scare Hunger Campaign.

Mrs. Westwick and the many of the junior students continue to make sandwiches each month for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Their next sandwich making lunch will be on November 28th. Thanks for helping to feed the hungry.

Thanks to Ms. Chiota's class for making the poppies that decorated Blessed Sacrament Parish to celebrate Remembrance Day.  As well, I would also like to thank the grade 6 students that helped decorate Blessed Sacrament Church on Thursday November 6th.

Recognition:
Our Catholic Graduate Expectation Awards are an integral part of our school community.  Each month teachers need to select one or two students who they believe have consistently shown different virtues.  These virtues are part of our being and our faith.  Children received awards at the beginning of this month for:
September: Courage and October: Compassion
Teachers are now looking for those students who display the following virtues:
November - Justice and December - Hope.

Please visit the hallway on the 2nd floor of the North building to see picture of the winners throughout the year.

PROGRESS REPORT CARDS

The first term is progressing well with students actively involved in learning experiences both inside and out of the classroom. Progress Report Cards for Grades 1 to 6  were sent home on October 29th and interviews took place on Tuesday November 4. For our Kindergarten students, interviews will take place on Wednesday November 12. Information was sent home with regards to this.

Thank you for your continued involvement and support of your child's education. Working together we make a difference in improving student learning and overall achievement. If you have any comments or concerns arising from Parent Teacher Interviews, please feel free to contact the office.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY:

Friday, November 21st is a Professional Development Day for staff. There will be no school for children on that day. Teachers will be engaged in professional learning activities.

 PRACTICE LOCKDOWN:

Our practice lockdown, as mandated by the Safe School Policy, will take place on Thursday 13th November 18th at 1:15 p.m.. At that time our School Resource Officer will be in the building to oversee the drill and check all classrooms.  Just a reminder that while in a practice lockdown  the phones will not be answered and the front door will not be opened.  If your child has an appointment on the day, please arrange to pick him/her up before or after the drill.  The drill will take approximately 30 minutes. Teachers will be addressing the lockdown in age appropriate language prior to November 13th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

NURSES CORNER:

Healthy Lunch

It is always a good idea to pack a healthy lunch. This helps kids have energy to learn and grow. Here are some tips to pack a healthy lunch bag:

  • Fruits and veggies should be a part of every lunch.
  • Try some dips like hummus, cottage cheese, and yogurt.
  • Select whole grain breads and crackers.
  • Buy different types of cheese (cheddar, swiss) in different forms (cubes, strings, balls).
  • Last night's dinner can make a quick lunch for the next day.
  • Pack water, milk, or 100% fruit juice for drinks.
  • Use an insulated food jar for foods like soup, chili, stew and leftovers so they are still hot at lunch.
  • Place a frozen ice pack, water bottle or juice box beside the cold foods.
  • Wash the lunch bag or box often with warm soapy water.
