 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Dear Parents,

First of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those parent volunteers who assisted with the picnic this year.  The first joint School and Parish Picnic was a success and I believe it is important to strengthen the bonds between us. These events bring our faith community together and illustrate to all how important this bond should be and how we are there to assist, rely on and work together as one community. We all have something to contribute, and together we can do God's work.  I would like to congratulate our student choir who sang at the church. Their voices were unbelievable and those who attended the 10:00 am mass enjoyed listening to the children. Thank you to Mrs. White for volunteering her time in preparing and directing our children.

This past year, we have learned a great deal from one another and together we met the challenges that were placed before us.  We celebrated and prayed together. We played together and came together as a faith community to pray for one another.  We also took care of one another and the wider community by raising funds to those less fortunate.

As we wake up each day this summer, remember God wants us to be able to look at life as an adventure, to see the beauty of life around us and to reach out to others. There are endless opportunities for adventure in simple things, we just need to see them and those in need.  If we can begin to look at each day as an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, then we will really begin to love and live life as God wants us to.  Each day is totally unique, filled with chances to love others, chances to hear  and see amazing things from God and chances to experience life. God wants us to look for the beautiful things in our lives. They are there, even if we aren't noticing them yet. So let us take some time this summer to open our eyes to the beautiful world and people around us and start to see life as an opportunity that God has granted us.

To those families leaving Corpus Christi Catholic School, please accept our most sincere wish that you find much happiness in your new adventure, every success in the future and that God will continue to guide and watch over you.

On behalf of the Corpus Christi Catholic School Staff, I thank all of you for your support throughout this school year. We look forward to working with you and your children again next year.

I leave you with this end of school year Prayer:

"God of wisdom, we thank you for all the gifts you have given us throughout this school year. We praise you for giving us life, for saving us in Christ, and for choosing us to be your people. As we come to the end of this school year, we voice our gratitude for the good things you have done in us, and we praise you for all who have shared in the work of this school. We ask you to bless them in your love and give them refreshment and peace. We praise you, God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns forever and ever."

May God bless you all and keep you safe.

Construction on the new office under the breezeway will begin on Friday.  Fencing will be going up on either side of the breezeway and the exit from the gym to the breezway will be closed.  Due to the parking lot being reduced, parking in our parking lot on Lyon is for STAFF ONLY and I would ask that parents do not park in that lot.  Parents can park on any side street, but please adhere to the City of Ottawa parking regulations.

SCHOOL COUNCIL:

Can you believe that June is upon us?  Summer holidays are just around the corner but there are still lots of fun things going on at Corpus Christi to mark the end of the school calendar:

School Travel Planning: Corpus Christi is completing its third and final year of school travel planning with Green Communities Canada and would like to thank the STP Committee (Mr. Schreider, Ms. Chiota, Mr. Siebert, Joanne Lucas, Mary Pat Burroughs, Blanka Remesova) for all their work in planning events and encouraging safe and active travel to school.  The Bike Rodeo last month was a big success with almost 150 of our students participating in bike safety and maintenance stations.  Our final iWalk to School Day is Thursday, June 13 and all students who have walked or biked on at least one iWalk this day will be eligible to win some great prizes.

Thanks to our Volunteers!:  Over the past two weeks, we have hosted a number of successful events at Corpus Christi.  The Art @ Lunch Vernissage was a glittering affair where parents got to see the students' artwork showcased beautifully, while sipping wine and nibbling hors d'oeuvres.  Thank you so much to the great team of volunteers who put together this wonderful evening and thanks to all the families who came out to enjoy the evening.  Just this past Sunday, we hosted the first ever School/ Parish BBQ.  The rain held off and families enjoyed food, fun and friendship in the Corpus Christi Schoolyard.  Thanks again to the volunteers who came out to set-up and help at the BBQ - your hard work is very much appreciated.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch: School Council plans a lunch for the teachers and staff of Corpus Christi to say thank-you for all they do for our students.  This year the teacher lunch is on Wednesday, June 12 from 12-1 in the library.  We need volunteers to sign up to bring food, help with set-up/ clean-up and supervise the students over lunch time so all the teachers can enjoy the feast!  Please email Reine Monahan if you are able to offer your time and/or talents: [email protected].

Lunch Program Survey: Before the end of school, you will receive a request by email to participate in our lunch program survey.  Please take a moment to let us know your views on the lunch programs at Corpus Christi. We will use your feedback to plan the lunch program for next year.  Thank you!

Last Council Meeting of the school year: Will be held on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 pm at 7 Second Avenue (home of the Parkes family).  If you are interested in being involved in council next school year, you are invited to come to the meeting and find out more about what we do.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who sit on School Council and make our school the wonderful place that it is.  Your hard work, energy and enthusiasm have made this school year one of the best ever at Corpus Christi!

FATHER'S DAY:

The students and staff of Corpus Christi Catholic School wish all dads and grandfathers a very "Happy Father's Day" on June 16th. May God bless you and keep you safe.

NURSES CORNER:

Talking to Your Kids

Change can be stressful for children. Summer is a great time for parents to talk with their kids to prepare them for starting a new grade or a new school.

Helpful tips:

  • Make time for one on one.
  • Some kids find it easier to talk in the car, over dinner or before bedtime when it's quiet.
  • Ask your child how they feel about the next school year. Listen to what they have to say.
  • Make eye contact, be patient and don't interrupt.
  • Tell them what they are feeling is normal.
  • Help them find what may be causing them stress.
  • Remember to always listen, listen, and listen!

Make sure children get enough rest, a healthy diet and exercise. As the summer nears to an end, try to get your child back on a school routine of earlier bedtime and morning waking. This way when September arrives everyone is refreshed and ready!
