Class Reunions Start Planning for Next Year

This year's reunion season has come to an end. First, I would like to thank all who have stepped up to run a class reunion.  It was great working with you, and it was even better getting to know you!  I would also like to thank everyone who attended a reunion.  It is great to see the smiles and the high-fives when people get back together.  I have even learned the flip cup game, thanks to the class of 2005!  Lastly, I would like to take a moment to thank all of those who contributed to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.  Some of you who could not attend your reunion still took the time to send us in a check so that we can keep the Rocket tradition strong.  Building up this fund has been a priority of mine since I started this job two years ago.  I am proud to announce that we have, thanks to your generosity, been able to turn the Alumni Scholarship into an endowed scholarship.  That means the money has been placed into an account, and we will be using the interest on that account to award an annual scholarship of over $1,300 dollars, without ever touching the balance!  This is truly great news, however, it means we only have one scholarship to award per year.  My goal, and I hope yours, is to grow that to as many scholarships as possible so that we can continue to see many children of Rockets walking the halls.  I will continue to ask classes as part of their reunions to support this great cause. Here is the breakdown from this years reunions:
Class of '55
$1,750
Class of '60
$1,720
Class of '65
$845
Class of '70
$1805
Class of '85
$1,355
Class of '90
$310
Class of '95
$670
Class of '00
$90
Class of '05
$840 and
$1,250 Bash for Brad

Class of '10
$60

The total amount raised this year from reunions- $9,445.  Let's keep this tradition going and growing!

It is time to start thinking about next year's reunions.  The Class of '66 has already started working on its 50th reunion! If you are in classes that ended with a 1 or a 6, you are up next year! Please try to make contact with members of your class so that you can get ready for your special reunion celebration. If you would like to help your class get its reunion started, feel free to give me a call.  We would love to help your class hold a great event. Click here for the Reunion Planning Guide.

Veterans Day Celebration

McNicholas marked Veteran's Day  with a presentation by Col. Bill Butler '86. During his talk, Col. Butler recalled that discipline, teamwork, and accountability were qualities he began to hone in the classrooms and on the football fields at McNicholas High School. Col. Butler joined many other veterans and active military for breakfast following his talk. Among the military relatives of our current students was Frank Buschmeier, grandfather of Caige and Chase Beuerlein, a 92-year old World War II veteran and former POW. Thank you to all our veterans for your selfless sacrifices and examples of honor and duty. Many Alumni came back for this event, they included: Bob Guenther '60, Tom Hay '60, Bill Deimling '61, Bob Batchelor '62, Lou Dimmerman '62, Paul Coates '64, Tom Kanis '66, Bob Ewers '66, John Burwell '68, Rick Ahlrichs '69, Jim Hay '77, Tim Hoeflich '82, and Bill Butler '86.

Erdy Foundation Dinner, Dance, and Auction--November 21

The 11th Annual Nick Erdy Foundation Dinner, Dance, and Auction will be held Saturday November 21, at Norlyn Manor, 4440 St. Route 132 in Batavia. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the dress is casual evening attire.  The event will include an open bar, a silent auction, and dinner provided by Texas Roadhouse. For information contact Jane Erdy at 513-200-5797 or visit www.nickerdyfoundation.org. Last year, the Nick Erdy Foundation awarded $4,300 to benefit three McNicholas students. The school is grateful for the Foundation's generosity in helping our students and hopes parents and alumni continue to support the Erdy's work.

Nick Erdy was a 2002 graduate of McNicholas High School. Immediately after graduating, Nick fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a Marine. When his unit was deployed to Iraq, it was part of Operation Matador on the Iraqi-Syrian border. In May, 2005, his armored assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device; Nick and five of his fellow Marines were killed. Nick was posthumously awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

If we fill up, we will run an "A" and a "B" division. Each team must have at least 4 Rocket Alumni, and 3 Rockets must always be on the court. The league will be played on Sunday nights in the Main and Aux Gym. Game times will be 6 - 9 p.m. The cost will be $500 per team.  Jason Heikenfeld '93 Recognized by U.C.
The University of Cincinnati has been recognizing some of the people that make the university such a special place. This semester, they are featuring McNicholas graduate, Jason Heikenfled '93. Recognizing that it's people who make UC one of the finest institutions in the world, the "Faces of UC" campaign provides an up-close introduction to the world of teaching, research, and entrepreneurship. The episode features a profile of UC alumnus Jason Heikenfeld, professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Class Composite Pictures
When reunions come back on campus, alumni love roaming the halls, especially junior hallway where the class composite pictures for every class that has graduated hang. The Convent holds the composite pictures from the St. Joseph Academy. Last year, we noticed that several of these pictures looked faded and tattered.  We took them off the wall and handed them over to Michael McIntire from Glutz/McIntire Photography. They came in and took the pictures, scanned them, and used a computer to enhance the images and then digitally put them pack together into a brand new picture.  They even put them  in frames that match what we have been using for the past 20 years.  Two of the pictures are now complete and back on the wall in junior hallway! I would like to thank Michael McIntire and some classmates who stepped up to help cover the cost of this work.  They did not want to be named, but it is a great example of Rockets that continue to step up to support their school. When all are finished, we will have new portraits for the classes of '84, '87, '88, and '89.  This leaves McNick with the old class composite pictures.  If anyone would love to have one of those composites, just contact me. They are available for a small donation to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

To purchase the old composite pictures please email Shawn Young.

Annual Fund

The calendar has changed to November already. The school year always seems to "speed up" at this time of year. In a few short weeks, we will start celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday, and Christmas will not be too far away. This time of year is also an extremely important time of year for McNicholas High School. The 2015-2016 Annual Fund has begun. By now, you should have received the brochure on this year's Annual Fund. A successful Annual Fund is critical to the success of McNicholas High School, as it helps us to "close the gap" between the actual cost to provide a quality faith-based education to our students and the amount of revenue we receive in tuition.

We have made a major change to the Annual Fund this year. You are now able to "support your passion" and designate your gift to support any of the following five areas:
--Most Critical Need
--Tuition Assistance
--Athletics
--Fine and Performing Arts
--Facilities

As we approach the end of the calendar year, please also remember all donations to the McNicholas Annual Fund are tax deductible. You can support the Annual Fund by returning the forms attached to your Annual Fund brochure or visit our website.

Should you have any questions about the Annual Fund, or the other methods by which you can support McNicholas please contact Mark Doran, Director of Development at (513)-231-3500 Ext. 5141.

We realize you and your family have many choices of how to spend your philanthropic dollars. A gift to McNicholas will be a great investment in the lives of both current and future McNicholas students.
