Rockets Coming Together for Adrian Ell |
Golf Outing is October 25
Adrian Ell was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma on August 4. She has a big and bright future ahead of her, and with your generosity, we will help her continue on that path of greatness. On October 25, friends will host a golf outing to raise funds to help Rob and Angel Ell with medical expenses and future treatments for Adrian.
Sweaty Band Fundraiser for Ell Family Sweaty Band has designed a special Sweaty Band exclusively for Adrian Ell and her fight against cancer. Adrian is a junior at McNicholas where she plays volleyball. She was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in August. To show your support, visit Sweatybands.com, click on "Shop" and order your #AdrianStrong Sweaty Band. Twenty percent of the final proceeds will go to the Ell Family to help with medical expenses, and you will receive 10 percent off your entire order. Walk Winners Donate to the Cause On Tuesday, October 6, McNicholas held its reverse raffle for the walk. Megan Rack '17 was the top seller in the school. As such she received a check for $600. At the assembly she decided to give the check over to the Adrian Ell fund. The reverse raffle was won by freshman Brenna Threet. Brenna won $1,000 and also turned that over for Adrian. It is great to see Rocket spirit alive and well in our current students.

Class Reunions are Wrapping Up for the Year
|
Homecoming was a great time to have a reunion. Two classes held tailgate reunions for the homecoming game, the Class of 1995 and the Class of 2010. Not only did they get to catch up with classmates, but they also got to watch the Rockets defeat Carroll. Other classes have met this fall as well. The Class of 2005 met on October 3 in the Library for its reunion. It was great to see so many show up for their 10 year reunion. The Class of 1980 held its reunion last weekend at the Belterra Casino. Thanks for everyone who had a part in planning the reunions and to everyone who showed up. It has been great getting to know so many people.
We still have 3 reunions left for the year. The Class of 1975 will be meeting at Salem Gardens on October 17, the Class of 2000 will be at Grove Park Grille on Oct. 24, and our final reunion will be the Class of 1970. They will be gathering at the house of Mike Kelly on November 14. For more details, please click here.
It is time to start thinking about next year's reunions. The Class of '66 has already started working on its 50th reunion! If you are in classes that ended with a 1 or a 6, you are up next year! Please try to make contact with members of your class so that you can get ready for your special reunion celebration. If you would like to help your class get its reunion started, feel free to give me a call. We would love to help your class hold a great event. Click here for the Reunion Planning Guide.

Nick Erdy was a 2002 graduate of McNicholas High School. Immediately after graduating, Nick fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a Marine. When his unit was deployed to Iraq, it was part of Operation Matador on the Iraqi-Syrian border. In May, 2005, his armored assault vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device; Nick and five of his fellow Marines were killed. Nick was posthumously awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Tom Mathews '81 came all the way from Florida so that he could play and set the fashion world on fire with this year's outfit! If you have never played, you should consider coming out next year. You will see plenty of old friends and have a great time. The golf outing is held the Friday of Homecoming weekend. Congrats to Dave Feck '79, and his team for their victory.

New Art Gallery Planned for in Library
|
The upper floor of the library that used to house the nonfiction collection will soon become McNicholas's new art gallery. The gallery will showcase pieces from all the art classes including ceramics, paintings, and photography. Librarian assistant Mrs. Jane Ray said she is delighted about the art gallery. "There are so many talented artists here at McNick, and I hope the gallery will increase awareness about the amazing things they create," Ray said.
After the nonfiction section was moved from the upper floor to the stage during the 2014-2015 school year, Librarian Mrs. Anne Jones began thinking of ways she could use the space. She had one idea about a "McNick Museum." The museum would have included information about past graduating classes, but Jones decided the art gallery would be a better fit. Tim Reed 1955 - Still Helping the Rockets
|
Tim Reed considers himself lucky. His mother died at his birth, and his father left him at the hospital, so he was placed in the hands of Cincinnati Catholic Charities as a baby orphan. Reed later attended McNicholas and appreciated the opportunity to graduate in 1955. "I learned that besides trying to meet personal goals in life, you should use your knowledge and skills to give back," Reed said. "When doing this, you find the pay-back is beyond monetary I have been lucky under God's guidance!"
After achieving professional and financial success, Reed felt compelled by the McNicholas "way of life" to do things to help others. He has served on the boards of the Salvation Army Civilian Advisory Board, the United Way, and the McNicholas Alumni Association. He has a volunteer usher at Music Hall for many year and now volunteers at the West Chester U.C. hospital and at his church.
Reed recently added McNicholas High School to his will. "My education at McNick taught me to give back," Reed said. "Now my giving will carry on!"
If you would like more information about planned giving, please contact Mark Doran at 513-231-3500, ext. 5141.

Class of '83 Turning 50 and Still Having Fun |
Class of 1983 Florida Trip to Bonita Springs

Row Two: Teri Stigler Rose, Margaret McClure Vogler, Jill Grogan Crawford, Heidi Siemers Walsh, Susan Hunninghake Kamphaus, Beth Stacey Farr, Tina Menchen Rudolph, Cindy Puthoff Oravitz, Amy Mulane Adams, and Beth Henry Rivard Not in Picture - Kelly Dwyer Lang
Not Able to make this trip: Katie Carney Wagner and Christine Buechler Bennet
Years after leaving McNicholas High School, the girls from the Class of 1983 still get together often. Many still walk the halls as they watch their children who now attend McNicholas. Heidi, Susan, Tina, Mary, Beth, Jill, Mooch, and Kelly all have sent or are sending their kids to McNick. "It has been great watching our kids have the same great experiance that we had," said Mooch McClure Vogler.
This past year, Mary Dadosky Wegener put a calendar together showing who turned 50 each month, and every month this group has gathered together to celebrate that birthday. To top it all off, they decided they needed a group trip to Florida. So the group packed the bags and headed down to Bonita Springs in September. "It was great to gather for some rest and relaxation and spending time reminiscing about our high school years," said Vogler.
We would love to know what your group of Rocket friends are up to. If you have a get together or an event, we would love to include it in this newsletter. Just contact Shawn Young to submit a story.
