Friday morning Mass in the Chapel

Friday Morning Mass is held at 7 a.m. each week when school is in session in our school's chapel, located in the Convent. Our first Mass will be celebrated September 4th and then on the 18th.

Announcement of New Alumni Awards

 

McNicholas High School is pleased to announce exciting new recognitions for alumni. Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, McNicholas High School will present three new awards. 

 

In conjunction with the establishment of these awards, McNicholas is also pleased to announce the inaugural Heritage Dinner which will be held on November 2, 2015, where these new awards will be presented. The first two awards will be based on alumni nominations. The third award will be selected by the school administration.

 

The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented annually to a McNicholas graduate who has utilized the qualities they learned at McNicholas High School to make an impact on society through their chosen field, such as medicine, education, law, government and the arts. We have many great alumni that have made an impact in these and other areas and McNicholas wants to formally recognize these accomplishments among our alumni. The Full Stature Special Achievement Award will be presented to an alumni who has distinguished themselves by earning special distinction in civic or service activities, and has by their actions reflected honor on the McNicholas community. To nominate someone electronically click here.

 

The McNicholas Outstanding Service Award will be presented to a a member of the McNicholas community who has made, through years of tireless effort, significant contriubtions of time, talent, and treasure to the growth of McNicholas High School.

Many people love to comment on the family feel at McNicholas. Maybe that is because of so many familiar faces!  Many graduates eventually return to work at Rocket High.  This year might be a new record at McNicholas.  We now have 24 graduates on staff.  Who was in your class?

Class Reunions are Underway

Congratulations to the class of 1990 who just held their 25th year class reunion.  On Friday night, they were back on campus, and on Saturday, they met down at Rhinegeist Brewery.  The class of '85 is up next.  They will be down at Grove Park Grille on Saturday, September 5. Classes of 1970, 1975, 1980,1995, 2005, and 2010 are in the planning stages for their reunions.  Click here for more details.

End of Summer Alumni Get Together
If you are the type of Rocket that does not like waiting 5 years to catch up with old friends then please come out and join us on Saturday,  August 29, at Park Grove Grille.  Tom Zins '81 has opened this establishment down on the river. We are having an informal get-together down on his back porch. The event has no cost, but we would appreciate it if you can let us know if you are planning on attending.  Please just email Shawn Young and let me know how many people you are bringing.  Thanks and see you there!


Football Season is set to Kickoff 
Please consider coming back to McNick to watch our mighty Rockets compete this season.  The Rocket Football program has put together the three best consecutive years in the history of the school.  We have two Friday night games this year, and we would love to see you there!

Kairos 100 Reunion

McNicholas High School recently marked a significant milestone with the 100th Kairos retreat. To celebrate this important time, all Kairos alumni are invited to a K100 Celebration on Sat., Sept. 5. The celebration will begin with Mass in Penn Station Stadium at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a 4th Day Gathering Reception. Light refreshments will be served at the 4th Day Gathering. Pave Your Path Project
Dear McNicholas Alumni,

I just wanted to bring to your attention my upcoming Cerebral Palsy philanthropy I will be executing while I study abroad in Europe this Fall called the Pave Your Path Project. I ask that you please pass along my mission to the Rocket community, I need all the help I can get. I hope you and the McNick community can follow me on my journey in spreading Cerebral Palsy Awareness. 

The experiences I have had at McNick have been invaluable. I am forever grateful to all things that McNick  what it is.  You all have done so much more for me than I could ever do for you. Your love, support, and faith in me has propelled me to many successes in my life, none more notable than becoming an international advocate for Cerebral Palsy. The Rocket community has given the confidence to use my circumstances as my way of attaining full stature in Christ and spreading His Word. As I embark on my newest CP Awareness opportunity, I hope you will help support me on my journey and spread my message to the community because my endeavors are merely a testament to you, McNick, and its unparalleled ability to develop students into men and women of Christ.

Alumni Night at the Reds Game
Looking to get together and cheer on the boys of summer?  The Alumni group is going to host an afternoon with the Reds.  
The game will be on Sunday, September 13.  The Reds will be taking on their rivals the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:10 p.m.  Ticket prices are normally $40 - $45 each for section 136, but we will be selling them for $15 to the first 40 people to register. After the first 40 are taken the price will still only be $23.  To purchase your tickets please 
Boosters Golf Outing

Boosters will once again be hosting the annual golf outing Friday, September 25, at Legendary Run Golf Course.  Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.  Dinner, awards, and auction begin at 6 p.m.  Cost of this event is $125. Mixed Couples Alumni Bowling League

 

The McNicholas Alumni Association will be running a mixed couples bowling league again this winter.  This mixed couples league will begin in September.  We will be bowling once a month at Cherry Grove Lanes. The starting time is 8 p.m. The cost is $15 per person per night for a total of 8 weeks.  Two payment options are available this year.  You can pay $60 now per person and pay the second payment of $60 in December, or simply pay the $120 before we start.  Sign ups will end September 7 or when all spots are filled.  If you cannot get a foursome, we will be able to pair you up!  Last year we had 40 bowlers, and this year we can expand to 56. After last year's fun, spots are expected to go quickly. At this time we only have 2 spots left!

You do not need to be an expert bowler-I am proof of that! This is about getting out and having some fun this winter.

 

Bus Trip to Keeneland

The McNicholas Athletic Boosters are hosting the first-ever bus trip to Keeneland.  This trip is for men and the women! The trip will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2015.  The bus will leave McNicholas at 8:30 a.m. and return after the last race.  The cost for this event is only $40 per person and includes the bus ride to and from Lexington, tickets to the races, light appetizers, and beverages for the ride!  Once there, we will set up a tailgate area as well.  Spots will go very fast for this event.  You can either pay with credit card by clicking here.  Or you can simply print off the form and mail it and your check into McNicholas High School in care of Shawn Young.

Rocket Champion Raffle

Here is your chance to support McNicholas Athletics.  The Rockets Champion Raffle is now running.  We will have $1,000 dollar winners in November, February, and in May.  $100 dollar winners in August, September, October, December, January, March, and April.  You can assign you ticket to go towards any sport you wish! Fr. Ed Smith '74 was honored this year with the distinguished alumnus of the year award from the Athenaeum of Ohio.  Fr. Ed was recognized because of his compassion, kindness and charity to all.

Tricia Laake '88 married Robert Oehler on June 17 in Sanibel Island, Florida.

Emily Serger Prem '02 married Joe Prem in February  2015. They have both graduated from Chase Law School and took the bar exam in July.

Tim Tepe '04 married Katherine Loftus Tepe in October 2014.

Christopher Soergel '05 earned his commission as a National Bank Examiner after successfully passing all parts of the Uniform Commission Examination with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in April, 2015. . The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks and federal savings associations as well as federal branches and agencies of foreign banks.  While a student at McNicholas, Christopher enjoyed learning about American government in Frank Lowden's classroom and participating in the mock trial team.
