New Cafeteria / Student Union Plan
McNick Plans upgrade to café with McNick at Night Special Appeal

Over 260 people enjoyed a beautiful evening of good food, one-of-a-kind auction items, and great fun at McNick at Night on march 14 at the Norlyn Manor Batavia. Alumni, current parents, past parents, and friends of McNicholas High School raised nearly $103,000 before expenses for the school.

Each year, McNick at Night closes the evening with a Special Appeal for some campus project or improvement. This year, the appeal will go toward updates and improvements to the McNick Café and Student Union including:
· vinyl flooring in a "wave" pattern
· wall sconce light fixtures
· ceiling fans
· stage platform and wall logo graphic
· vending and trash area
· video monitors
· new tables and chairs

Work on the McNick Café and Student Union is projected to begin at the conclusion of this school year and slated to be finished by the start of the 2015-16 school year.

McNicholas Military Dance Review

The McNicholas Military Memorial Committee held its annual fundraising dance on February 28 in the McNicholas gym.  A crowd of about 350 people, including numerous alumni, filled the gym and rocked to the sounds of Cincinnati's premier "oldies" band, Ooh La La and the Greasers, while committee members and other volunteers raffled off gift baskets and Split-The-Pot chances. Proceeds from the dance will be used to award scholarships to eighth grade students who will attend McNicholas the following school year.  Since beginning these fund-raising dances five years ago, the Military Memorial Committee has awarded over $35,000 in scholarships.  The next round of scholarships, which will be awarded in December for the 2016 school year, will push that total over the $40,000 mark.

On behalf of the entire committee, Jim Hay, committee chairman, would like to thank everyone who attended the dance to show support for the Military Memorial Committee and the scholarship funding, especially those alumni, faculty members, administrators and friends who have supported the dances year after year.

Joyce Vorholt King '85 "This year is not only my 30th reunion at McNicholas, but also my 30th wedding anniversary to Chris King. We have lived in Georgia since 1989, when he was hired at Delta Airlines. Our son Matt, 28, is studying accounting. Our daughter Steffany, 24, works doggedly on her thesis in preparation for her graduation from Columbia College Chicago, where she has been teaching Writing/Rhetoric I to freshman and also working at a leasing company. My youngest son, Cody, 22, is learning sheet metal mechanics and plans to go back to school for a career in computers. I am currently working as a dental assistant, but looking to expand my horizons with a new place of employment and hopefully fulfilling my lifelong dream of working with animals/dogs. I love spending time with my dogs Jack, 12, Thor, 8, and Maggie, 4, and my granddog Crash, 1, and waiting for my kids to make me a grandma!"
