McNicholas Military Committee

Trees added to the memorial

The Committee added some new landscaping to the Military Memorial this year. Don Gilb '69 did the landscaping work, and the committee donated over $1,000 to get the job finished. This project became a priority when the old pine trees began to die.  These trees were the  ones that the Sisters of St. Joseph planted around the time St. Joseph Academy was founded, said Ken Serger '69. The committee felt that a new "screen" behind the memorial would not only enhance the appearance of the memorial, but the entire area as well.  It was also a tribute to the Sisters to "rebuild" the area by replacing the original trees that had died and had to be removed.

The Military Memorial Dance

The Committee is able to make improvements to the memorial and to provide scholarships to future Rockets by sponsoring its annual dance. Come join us on Saturday, February 28, at 8 p.m. in the McNicholas Main Gym.  Once again, Ooh La La and the Greasers, the premier "oldies" band in Cincinnati, will provide entertainment. There will also be a Split-the-Pot raffle and other fun events.  This dance, while open to the public, has become one of the most popular alumni and parent events on the McNicholas calendar. Tickets may be purchased by completing a reservation form or contacting Pat Farwick at McNicholas at 513-231-3500 ext. 5803 or Tickets for the event may be purchased at the door.

Alumni Scholarship Winners Announced

Thank you to the classes who held their reunions last year.  It was a pleasure to work with you, and I look forward to working together with you again in 5 years. But do not be a stranger -- we can always use your help!

A special thanks to three class reunions in particular.  The classes of 1959, 1964, and 1969 contributed nearly $2,000 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund.  The Alumni Association Committee met in the beginning of December to select the two winners this year. Congratulations to our female winner, Annabelle Fisher from St. Veronica Parish. Annebelle is the daughter of  Chris and Amy Ecker Fisher '88, She is the niece of Tim '82, Karen Ecker Kratz '84, Laurie Ecker Carigan '86, and Kathie Ecker Doggett '90. Annabelle also has cousins that have graduated from McNicholas, Allison Ecker '11, Rachel Ecker '14, and Jarryd Osborne '14. The winner of the boys scholarship is Vincent Ramundo from Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Vincent is the son of Tore Ramundo '91 and Christine Carroll Ramundo '93.  His grandfather is Michael Carroll '68.  Vincent also has three aunts who are graduates; Renata Ramundo '93, Andrea Ramundo '95, and Becky Carroll Gawronski '95.  Congratulations to our winners!

"This is a great new tradition we started this year", said Sr. Judi Keehnen '59. The challenge has now been put out there for the classes holding their reunions this year. We need to help keep our McNicholas tradition going, and I can think of no better way than classes giving back so that others may become Rockets! "

Reunions for 2015

Our years at McNicholas High School were truly a special time---a time when we were in the beginning stages of trying to find and create ourselves, forming our faith, and building the foundation to prepare us for life's challenges. Since, we have all gone our separate ways and met many challenges and successes.  Let's come together to share our life experiences.

The following classes are celebrating a special anniversary year: 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010. Please try to make contact with members of your class so that you can get ready for your special reunion celebration. Click here for the reunion planning guide.

Reunions are a special time for your class to renew friendships, share memories and exchange news. As your Alumni Manager, I will assist you during many of the steps along the way, including encouraging your class to consider having your reunion (or some aspect of it) on campus.  The Development and Alumni Relations office has compiled information, resources, and services to help you make this event an interesting and enriching experience. Please contact the office so that we can put your information on the school website.
