 OUR BEAUTIFUL 2 YEAR OLD SELF I love 2 year olds. Why? Because two year only want to do one thing. Connect and have fun! The eyes of a child see only the beautiful spirit of other children. Two year olds don't see or care about skin color. Nor do they see or care about gender. To a two year old what the other two year old is wearing is of no significance.
What is significant is how connected they feel and how much fun they are having. But that beautiful free and easy authentic attitude will eventually be slowly eroded until he or she grows older and the inevitable downloads land into their belief system, either by observing the attitudes and behaviors of others, or by experiencing hurt and then vowing to never get hurt like that again. Pride, resentment, judgment....the old "I'll show you..." All learned behaviors.
That is why it is so downright painful when we fall out of sorts with others. And I think the Burning Man Sculpture so aptly portrays the emotional turmoil that the grown up experiences when there is conflict, not just with loved ones, but with co workers, neighbors, heck, any human we cross paths with. It's the pain in the heart of of our two year old who wishes he or she could go back to the way it was then.
Age has many beautiful gifts, but one we could live without is the pride and resentment we hold onto when we have conflicts with others. The forgiving free spirit of children is our true nature. When we feel stubborn we might want to let our two year old speak up and remind us how we really are meant to be.
So from my two year old's heart to your two year old's heart, know that I want to stay connected with you. And my two year old highly suggest that your two year old makes every effort into putting more fun into your day.
As my bff Robi Hastie says, "We need to keep the party going".
