Today is the 1st of October, 2015, and I am happy to say that as of today, I am on Medicare. And that is all I have to say about that.
My Mom passed in 2008. It was October of 2008 when I delivered my first newsletter. 7 years have since passed. 7 is a very spiritual number. 7 Chakras, 7 colors of the rainbow, 7 notes on the musical scale. It takes time and discipline to write a monthly newsletter with the intention that it is mostly inspirational and not just same ole same one. I thank you for not just reading, but those that send me an email thanking me and saying, "I really needed that one today, extra thanks." That is what motivates me. Here's to another 7!
So, the other day I was in one those moods, you know, the one where you find yourself complaining a lot about this or that, reciting your litany of what's not working in your life to anyone who will listen. I went on for quite a while when my kid finally said to me, "Mom....Mom...please....stop and just listen to yourself........do you have any idea how many people in the world who don't have what you have, who would kill to walk in your shoes? 80% of the people in the world would love to have Tina Marian's life. You have a home, a family, friends, amazing neighbors, food in the fridge, a healthy body, money in the bank, work you love to do......what part of THAT are YOU not getting?"
I walked away and started to contemplate the words that my kid said. It kind of really hit me hard but got me to consider how right my kid was. What was the reason I needed a pity party? Why was I not able to wrap my own head around all that I am blessed to have? And create a litany of that...
I know that in the BLINK OF AN EYE, life can drastically change. My lovely neighbor Cheryl Nixon actually authored a book titled "In the Blink of an Eye" a true story of how on one rainy night in 1994, 4 of her 6 kids were coming back from a church meeting, and her oldest son, who was driving, accidentally crashed their van. It was a wet slippery night. He was an Honors High School senior at the time and a track star. He severed his spine and became a quadriplegic that night. His 16 year old brother (also an Honors and track star) became a paraplegic. The older son to this day remains on a ventilator. You never hear this family complain, in fact the opposite is true.
I found out last week that another lovely neighbor is in the hospital. After she became yellow with jaundice she went to find out why. Her husband sent an update, that she has very severe and serious liver damage........caused by a prescription medication she was on. It may take a very long time to heal. But she has the determination to heal, and heal she will. I am sure she wasn't expecting that. That was her blink......"Today I am a mommy of two beautiful kids and have an awesome husband and a great career, and today I am yellow and my future is not in my control......"
In the blink of an eye I lost the best nursing job I ever had. "Ahh... you need leave today and, by the way, can you be outta here by 2?"
We can be so off guard for those blink of an eye events.
My point is, after contemplating the words of my kid......we need to embrace what we have and I think if we are all honest with ourselves, we truly have blessed lives. Oh we have our problems, trials and tribulation, everybody does. But I believe we fare better when we see that the glass is half full. And knowing that in the blink of an eye that half glass of water could get knocked over. Embrace your today, just because......
Every day I am continuing to learn how to lighten up, not take everything too seriously and stop the catastrophic thinking pattern that plays out more often than I like to admit. But I, like you, like all of us, we are works in progress, and we are never finished!!
I would like to end with a quote from one of my life coaching clients. We grew quite close during the year that we worked together and I was there for her when she had her "in the blink of an eye" unforeseen incident. We will be friends forever. Love you Audrey!!

Have a great month, enjoy the crispness of fall, the pumpkins, the mums and try not to think about what follows. Unless you love shoveling and hideous cold.
