                        REMORSE AND REGRET

"My one regret is that I'm not someone else." Funny words by Woody Allen, yes? Funny but a little sad at the same time, because I think it sums up for many a long standing feeling of "I am not OK with who I am" kind of thing.

When I do workshops and I ask if there is any specific feeling that we could all tap on, I am often asked if we could tap on remorse and regret.

Remorse and regret are very heavy energies to be lugging around with us day in and day out. Shame and self judgement usually tag around with regret and remorse. None of it feels good and only serves to lower our vibration and keep us feeling stuck.

We have all, in our humanness, made poor decisions, said or done things that we totally regret. Now it is one thing to regret something we did impulsively, like getting a tattoo. The next day saying , "Oops what have I done?" Or having buyer's remorse....."Why did I spend so much money to advertise on Yelp and have it not yield one client" (true story, yep) I totally regret that decision. I also regret I have never traveled to Italy (yet).

Then there is the regret of not taking better care of our health. Eating wrong, bad habits, hard to break. Where is the exercise? I know it is good for me but I regret that I can't hold up to my part of the bargain.

But it is so much more painful when our decisive actions actually hurt the ones we love the most because that is when true remorse and regret settle in. And they stay to serve to remind us of what bad people we are. They don't leave easily. Guilt, shame regret and remorse all holding hands in the subconscious mind.....truly painful. And let's face it, we've all been there. If you haven't then you are a sociopath. Seriously, if you can hurt the ones you love the most and not feel remorse, then you are truly a sociopath. Thankfully most of us are not and our guilt remorse and pain actually shows that we have a heart.

So don't hate yourself for your actions. Learn from them. Grow to a new level of understanding who you are and how you operate. Know that we are all in this together. The human condition, the human soup, stew, we are all a part of it. And that is an amazing thing. We grow, we learn from our mistakes. And in the end we get back to loving and appreciating our beautiful human selves.

I leave you with this beautiful quote from an unknown author:

"Total self esteem requires total and unconditional acceptance of yourself. You are a unique and worthy individual, regardless of your mistakes, defeats, and failures, despite what others may think say or feel about you or your behavior. If you truly accept and love yourself you won't have a driving need for attention and approval. Self-esteem is a genuine love of self. Stop all adverse value judging of your self. Stop accepting the adverse value judgements of others. Purge yourself of all condemnation, shame, blame, guilt and remorse."

Stop the (self) blame game. For once and for all. Life is short and meant to be enjoyed. Once you learn to love you, you will love the world you perceive.

Have a wonderful month and try not to see the leaves on certain trees that are starting to blush!
