When we get up each day, we decide what clothes to wear. We decide what we will eat and where we will go and what we will do. Additionally, and much more importantly, we make another choice, a choice that will be far more noticeable than the clothes we are wearing. We choose our attitude.
An attitude can be defined as our inward feelings expressed in outward behaviors. We may say one thing, but our attitude will always speak our truth. Thus, attitudes can improve as long as we move to change the belief that our attitude stems from. For example, having a belief such as "things don't work out for me" will certainly create more of a pessimistic outlook rather than an optimistic attitude. Our beliefs can be so strongly held that they create our perception of our reality. So if you truly believe "nothing works out for me", you will be blinded to the times when they actually did.
Beliefs that cause you to feel powerless, inadequate or inferior are not based in your truth. Because if they were really your truth, then you would feel a sense of satisfaction that you arrived at finding your true identity! The fact that the belief causes you to feel uncomfortable is proof that you are onto a big untruth. The next step is to find a way to re-frame the belief into one that makes you feel better.
Charles Swindoll said it so well. "We cannot change our past....we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% how I react to it."
Along with every thought, every word and every action that we take comes the decision as to the attitude we wrap all of it in. Our decision impacts the energy of everyone around us. We have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.
"He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts. ~ Samuel Johnson.
