Pastors' Prayer Partners

Greetings!

There is more than what you see.

Let that guide your prayers.

Let me tell you a story. I found the story in the book Pivotal Praying.

A missionary in Africa served in an area that was war-torn and dangerous. To get medical supplies he had to travel two days journey and spend a night camping-out in the wild. It was highly dangerous. On the morning of the second day, he came across two men, one seriously injured. He cared for the man, like a Good Samaritan and went on his way.

The next time he came through the village, he stopped in to see if he could find out how the man was doing. He found him. The injured man made a startling confession to the missionary. He told him, that he and his friends had followed the missionary with full intention of ambushing him, and killing him. The man told the missionary, "We knew you had to camp overnight. We were going to kill you, take your money and medicine; but when we saw the twenty-six guards surrounding you, we fled." The missionary laughed and said he traveled alone. The recovering man insisted, saying that all five of his compatriots also counted the twenty-six guards.

At a later time, the missionary shared his story with his home church. Afterward someone approached him and asked the date and time of the incident. They then pieced together that at precisely the same time his church was holding a prayer meeting.

There were twenty-six men in attendance at that prayer meeting.

Whether you believe it or not, regardless of how you might explain it; the point is simply that when you pray there is more going on than meets the eye. There is more to this world and this life than what you can see.

In 2 Kings 6, God's prophet, the army of the enemy surrounds Elisha. It is just Elisha and his servant against the army of the enemy. Or is it? Maybe there is more than what was seen on the surface. This is the story:

15 When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. "Oh, sir, what will we do now?" the young man cried to Elisha.

16 "Don't be afraid!" Elisha told him. "For there are more on our side than on theirs!" 17 Then Elisha prayed, "O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!" The Lord opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

Once again, the prayer of the faithful reveals that there was more than just what meets the eye. God was working.

Today would you remember that truth in your own life? What are you battling? Are you praying? Are you trusting that there is more going on than what you can see with your eyes?

Listen, that's why it is so important that you pray for your church and your church leaders too. Surround us with your prayers! Encircle us with your prayers that create a united front against the forces that war against us.

There is more going on than meets the eyes.
