Little things ... my, how they shape the course of your life.
We don't know it to be so, but I have always firmly believed it to be true.
The first Christian martyr for his faith was Stephen. It's recorded in Acts 7. Near the end of the passage it says simply:
They rushed at him and dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. His accusers took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Saul.
It seemed like any other day in Saul's life. Whatever was on his "to do" list, it probably did not include "watch the first Christian be martyred by stoning". But I think that was THE day that changed Paul's life.
He became enthused and empowered to pursue the persecution of the "followers of the way". He became ruthless in the pursuit. It consumed him. It changed him.
In the beginning of chapter eight of Acts it recaps the encounter succinctly.
Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen.
But it is my personal belief that the events of that day did something in this man named Saul/Paul. The day at the stoning was directly related to his day on the road of Damascus. That was the day that he met Jesus.
What will today hold? The truth is you never know. But maybe woven into the fabric of this day there will be a God moment. Something just might happen today that will forever change you. (Now, let's hope it is not the gruesome experience of watching an "execution by mob", but let's just hope that you are available for God to show up in some fashion in your life)
Little things.
Sometimes we think it doesn't matter, but it will. Today, what you will do, will take you closer to the Lord, or farther from him. Look for God to show up.
Today would you pray that you would be right where you need to be so that you might have that God-ordained encounter?
