Trying to determine how to dispose of light bulbs, electronics, or batteries in your office? We're continuing our Race to Zero Waste series with an explanation on safely eliminating hard-to-recycle products at The Ridges.
Labeled green recycling cabinets are located in Buildings 19, 21 and 22 for the following items:
- Printer cartridges
 - Cellphones
- Batteries
- CDs
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
Trickier items may need to be taken elsewhere for disposal. On April 23, the City of Athens will host its annual Hazardous Waste Drop-Off at the Athens Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Flammables, corrosives, toxics, reactives, e-waste, and more will be accepted - find the full list here.
On May 21, the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District will hold its Recycling Day in Chauncey and will shred documents as well as accept even harder-to-recycle items like refrigerators, air conditioners and furniture. The complete list and costs are on the AHSWD website.
The Athens-Hocking Recycling Center website has a complete list of businesses and organizations that accept unwanted items from clothing to waste engine oil at any time. That list can be found here.
As the school year comes to a close and you find yourself with leftover supplies and equipment, remember to check if your item is recyclable before sending it toward the landfill. The more we recycle, the more steps we take toward Zero Waste!
In next week's newsletter, we'll discuss how to plan your upcoming events with a sustainability component using Ohio University's Green Events Guide. |
