GIFT PLANNING TIP

Did you know you can authorize your bank to give any of your accounts (in whole or in part) to your congregation of the Metro D.C. Synod after you are gone? Most people can find these forms on their bank's website - or simply stop by and complete them. It is an easy way to make a gift to promote the Gospel. - Tip submitted by Alice Benson, ELCA Foundation Regional Gift Planner

AN ONLINE LUTHER BOOK CLUB PLUS
Don't know if it's on your radar, but anticipation is mounting as we approach 2017 - the 500th anniversary of the Reformation movement. One opportunity in conjunction with this observance is Luther Reading Challenge. It's an online community for reading and discussion of Luther's theological writings as a preparation for the Reformation anniversary. From now until October 2017, a wide range of Luther's works will be made available online. Anyone can sign up for a free account to join the conversation. The Luther Reading Challenge is an initiative of the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg, France, where the Rev. Dr. Sarah Hinlicky Wilson, our 2015 Synod Assembly keynote speaker, teaches. LIBERIA DECLARED EBOLA-FREE
In Liberia and around the world, we are celebrating that the World Health Organization declared the country Ebola-free. The announcement came on Saturday, May 9; it had been 42 consecutive days with no reported cases of Ebola in Liberia. While Monday, May 11, was declared a holiday to celebrate, Liberia's president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, says there can be no complete celebration until neighboring countries, Sierra Leone and Guinea, are also Ebola-free. Both of those countries have each had a few cases during the past week. (LivingLutheran blog post, 5/13/15)
