When weather changed the dates of Support U Seminar: A Crash Course for families with aging loved-ones, it also shuffled a few other details. Like which session is offered which day. But the valuable information to support persons who have assumed responsibility for aging or ill loved ones is consistent - and Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area welcomes members at a single- or both-sessions. The Rev. Mark Brown, Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Regional Representative in Jerusalem, will discuss, "Humanitarian Assistance and Prospects for Peace in the Holy Land." He will discuss Augustana Victoria Hospital, other LWF humanitarian services, East Jerusalem and the peace process. Sat. Mar. 28, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manassas, Virg.
Four local experts will join the Rev. Jeff Wilson in presenting a Life Transitions Workshop to lead participants in planning for important transitions at the end of life. While planning for starting a family or college is more familiar, looking at topics such as "End of Life Legal Issues," "Family Communication" and "Funeral Preparation" can also be joyful and life-giving. "Home and Away: Ministry with Those Coming Home and Ministry as the Global Church" are the themes of the 2015 Gettysburg Spring Academy. "Home" will look at the church's ministry with people returning from combat experience and from incarceration. "Away" will look at missional conversations around realities of this world God loves.
