Director's Corner

It sure doesn't feel like fall outside, but inside at APNC world headquarters we're all about preparing for our busiest time of year!

In this issue, you'll read about plans for our Fall Conference, which will be APNC's biggest and best yet. Thanks to the great work of Anna Goodwin and her team of Regional Vice-Presidents, Recovery Month grants have been awarded to organizations across the state that are planning events in September.

The fall also brings elections for 2015-2017 offices and this newsletter includes candidate biographies and backgrounds to help you make an informed decision.

There are also a number of things happening at APNC that aren't detailed in this issue but are still vitally important to our mission. Our Board of Directors has commissioned a financial review to help us ensure that APNC is on the right financial path to growth and sustainability. We're also working diligently to represent your interests in the halls of the General Assembly, where budget negotiations continue and APNC is working hard to push for issues you and the entire substance use disorder community care about.

"Beau Mann, the chief executive and a founder of a new app called Sober Grid, says that for some users, joining this social network could be a matter of life and death. 'It sounds somewhat dramatic, but it's realistic,' Mr. Mann said. 'Some people, their life is dependent on their sobriety. So that need to connect is how people get and maintain sobriety."
