Notes From Jim:
Hi everyone,
As you are reading this, Coralie Hughes (MMCP) and I are in West Palm Beach, Florida with Susan Harris, Anatomy in Motion™ creator, and Betsy Steiner, American World Champion Dressage Team Member, creating the new Dressage DVD. Here is a picture of Susan Harris and her assistant starting the anatomy paint work on the horse Betsy Steiner will be riding. The anatomy on the outside will clearly show how the upper level movements affect the anatomy of the horse. Below is a picture of our same horse taking a break from being painted.
All of us are really excited by the script, organization and team spirit. And we are contemplating a spiral bound book - along the same lines as the Beyond Horse Massage book to go along with the dvd!
From here in Florida, I will be flying to Albany, Oregon to the North West Horse Expo to present The Masterson Method™ from the 22nd to the 24th of March. I hope those of you from that area stop in to say hello.
Our Masterson Minute this month is my demonstration at the Denver Horse Expo. The bleachers were full, although you have to take my word for it as it looks like I am talking to myself and Leah. I want to thank Leah Estberg (on my left) for coming to help me out with the demonstrations and fielding questions at the booth. Thanks!
It seems like the rest of March and April are dedicated Horse Expo months, as I will be in Madison, Wisconsin, April 19th - 21st for the Midwest Horse Fair and then from the 26th - 28th of April to Minnesota for the Minnesota Horse Expo. Becky Tenges is pinch hitting for me at the Iowa Horse Fair, April 5th - 7th and the Lynden Horse Expo in Lynden, Washington October 4th and 5th. Please check our Calendar page and then click on Horse Expos for a full listings.
This month's newsletter will be brief, but I hope you all can join me at one of the Horse Expos, where we can catch up on all the news.
Oh, and one more thing; you will see that the Calendar to the right has now been changed.
We have broken it out in sections, we now have a Calendar for the Weekend Seminar Workshops, followed by listings for 5-Day Advanced Courses, followed by One Day Courses and finally Demonstrations. The list was getting quite long and we wanted to make sure everyone found things as easily as possible.
Enjoy this month's newsletter...
Until then, like me, enjoy your horses!
Jim

New Masterson Method™ Certified Practitioner (MMCP) in Denmark: Pernille Hanson I grew up in Denmark and have always been around animals and enjoyed their company. I started riding at an early age, mainly riding for pleasure, and I got my first and only pony - my soul mate - when I was 13. I have always been passionate about animals and animal welfare, and when looking into possible future careers, I found out that qualifying as a human physiotherapist could take me into the exciting world of high level veterinary physiotherapy, and thereby being able to help improve animals' quality of life. In 2009, I got my Bachelor Degree in Human Physiotherapy from VIA University College in Aarhus, Denmark. Then, in 2012, I achieved a Master of Science in Veterinary Physiotherapy from The Royal Veterinary College in London, England, and I am now the only physiotherapist in Denmark holding this degree. While doing my MSc degree, I looked for further ways to work with animals. When I found Jim's website, I knew that I had found what I was looking for! The Masterson Method™ has been a great complement to the veterinary physiotherapy work. It has provided further tools to release tension in the horses' bodies, and has improved the understanding of horse behavior and how to use the behavior and responses of the horses when working with them. If you want to make your horses feel better, achieve a better understanding of horses and their behavior and have a better and closer relationship with your horses, then The Masterson Method™ is for you! I am based in Denmark and mainly work with horses, dogs, cats and humans. Assessment and treatment of other animals can be arranged, as can traveling to other countries.

Ask Jim:The book, and your Method, offer a large number of techniques with a great deal of thorough explanation, and you caution readers not to over-use the techniques. Do you think a person with one horse and no medical experience can become adept enough at the techniques to truly be effective? The reason for not over using these techniques is that success with this Method depends on by passing the horse's survival-bracing response while doing, or asking, the horse to do the techniques. It's important not to do these techniques every day for multiple days, or to repeat a technique more than a few times consecutively during a session, or the horse will learn to brace against it - either internally or externally, and the release will be less effective. This participation of the horse is important to the Method. Practicing on a horse who needs the work once or twice a week will not allow the horse to learn how to "get around" the techniques, and should allow you to learn how to do what your horse needs. If you are having difficulty with a technique within one session, going to another technique and then coming back to the first technique, for example, will help you to by-pass the horse's bracing response. For those serious about becoming good at this, learning the material presented in the book and DVD, and then coming to a weekend seminar workshop taught by a certified instructor would be the best avenue to follow. Essentially, by following the horse's responses, learning to by-pass the horse's bracing response, and looking for the improvement each step of the way makes this Method user-friendly, teachable and safe for both the practitioner and horse. Thanks for your question, Sincerely, Jim |
