Notes From Jim:
Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays!
I wanted to start out by thanking everyone for the growth of the Masterson Method™ training programs this last year. Because of people like you spreading the word more and more people are being introduced to this Method, and are enjoying their horses in a new and fulfilling way. I feel that an ever increasing number of horses are finding a pleasant surprise discovering a new side to the two-legged creatures that they spend so much time hanging out with and I am really excited about this. I would never have thought that this journey would go from making a living working on horses for performance, to teaching people to aid their horses with performance, to helping people make such a difference in their relationships with their horses. This is such an exciting aspect of my work, and I'm very appreciative of horse-people like you who have led us in this direction. Thank you!
I just had another interview with Rick Lamb on his radio show. I really enjoy him and always have a good time talking to him. His love and exposure to all aspects of the horse world has given him a fun and insightful approach to horsemanship. Click to go to our Media Webpage and hear the interview. And, while you are there, enjoy some of the other interviews and shows.
I'm feeling especially appreciative and grateful right now - as I always am towards the end of the year - so to keep from getting too gushy I think a commercial break would be appropriate right about now:
"For you last minute shoppers, don't forget that we have free shipping until January 1st, and we now are offering the original DVD, Equine Massage for Performance Horses: The Masterson Method on it's own or as a "super package" with the new DVD and book, Beyond Horse Massage. For those of you with a nostalgic bent, or who have fun saying things like; 'Look how young he used to be!', you might enjoy this video - apart from the educational content!" Click to go to our Store webpage.
And for those who would like to give an extra gift to your horses, please click to Find a Certified Practitioner to see if there is an Masterson Method Certified Practitioner (MMCP) in your area. Your horse will appreciate it, and you'll be able to see first hand how this will affect your horse - and you. Below, we introduce four dedicated and talented horse people who have recently completed their certification.
I am off to the UK for the last course of the year, and to spend the Holidays with family in Europe.
Have the happiest of Holiday Seasons this December, and I look forward seeing what doors open up for all of us this coming year.
Until then, as usual, like me, enjoy your horses!

New Certified Masterson Method™ Practitioner in Norfolk, UK; Rosie Hume I grew up around horses, but had a long break until 2005. My second horse had severe back and neck issues as a result of incorrect schooling methods and needed a lot of chiropractic and veterinary treatment. I was persuaded to go to one of Jim's weekend seminars; and I went only thinking that I would learn something to help my horse in between treatments. But Jim's method of listening to the horse and watching for those subtle responses fitted in really well with how I work with horses. The ethos of less is more and taking it slowly working with the horse really suited me. I was hooked and wanted to learn more about this method of bodywork. This was the start of the certification process. I firmly believe that horses are excellent teachers if we listen to them. They didn't let me down when I was working towards certification. Each horse taught me something new and I just loved watching the results. Rosie is based in Norfolk and is prepared to travel. She can be contacted by phone: 07786 545977 or email: rosie3319@gmail.com. Read a full bio of Rosie on the Find a Certified Practitioner Webpage |
New Masterson Method™ Certified Practitioner From Bear Creek, NC: Lisa Mayhew
I have had a passion for horses since I was old enough to talk. A lifelong pleasure rider, I discovered horseback field trials about 13 years ago which fit perfectly with my other love for competing with my German Shorthaired Pointers. After growing up on Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, I made the switch to Tennessee Walkers and haven't looked back. Always looking for healthier ways of caring for my animals, I came across massage schools and attended my first Masterson Method clinic in May 2010. I was so impressed with the responses from the horses, I decided to pursue my certifications so I could begin working horses professionally. My business, Poll To Pastern, operates out of Central North Carolina. Having experienced a back injury this past year, I appreciate more than most the parallels between horse and human, how my own physical therapy was so similar in purpose and movement with this method of bodywork. I understand the importance of keeping the horse's back supple because of how it affects their movement in other key areas. My own horses have loved the bodywork as we prepare to pursue competitive trail riding, and I begin to learn dressage. A New Certified Practitioner in California: Barbara McCann
After a childhood of lessons and sharing a young thoroughbred with her sister, Barbara began working in the horse industry in the early 80's. She has worked at thoroughbred breeding farms, dressage and H/J show /sale barns and thoroughbred racetracks in Maryland and California. Exercising and grooming these hard working animals gave Barbara a strong desire to help these horses stay fit and feel good.
Beginning in the early 90's she attended several Linda Tellington-Jones clinics and the quest was on to find modalities that would see the horse as a partner and include methods of improving their wellbeing. After attending a Masterson Method™ weekend workshop several years ago she knew this was truly a method that filled those requirements.
She is delighted to be certified as a Masterson Method™ Certified Practioner (MMCP) and living in the San Francisco Bay area that has almost as many horses as it does people.
Barbara McCann, MMCP can be reached at bigspottedhorse@hotmail.com or 650-995-4426

New Certified Practitioner in Florida; Ann Niles
I began my life long love of horses at the age of 6. I earned my Associates Degree in Stable and Farm Management from Cazenovia College. I worked summers as a veterinary intern and then groomed at some large show barns during and after college preparing horses for the show ring.
When I got back into horses in 1998, I learned Dressage, driving, became a certified equine appraiser and eventually tried endurance as well and I was hooked! I logged over 500 miles, which started a 2 year quest to find a way to keep my horses comfortable during and after the rides. That is when I stumbled onto a You Tube video of the Masterson Method™ so I signed up for my first weekend seminar with Jim. Following the weekend seminar, I decided to go the certification route and have never looked back. I am so excited about this Method and its gentleness that I truly feel I want to teach it and share my knowledge with other like minded people. Each horse, if you will listen and watch, can teach us something.

Feedback on Old dvd, versus New dvd: I think Jim's first DVD, Equine Massage For Performance Horses, The Masterson Method™ is the foundation of his Method and it is so well done, especially for the beginner, the graphics are just great! I still go back and watch it because it has such valuable information. In my opinion I would suggest to your audience that this is the first DVD to get and then follow up with the second DVD.
If I had watched your second DVD first I know I would not have understood all that was being presented. The first and second are so complementary to each other that I'd recommend that all students or people that are interested in the Masterson Method™ purchase them both. Without both, you will certainly miss some very important information.

Testimonial Dear Jim, I did a bodywork session for a friend on her 28 year old mare and I wanted to share what my friend wrote. Read below. Have a wonderful day!! Martha "Red has been in a good mood since (the session.) We had the best canter that we have ever done and she did things at liberty yesterday that were cool. It is almost like I am getting credit for having Martha do the massage!" Note: Martha Becker who is completing her Field Work phase towards Certification.
