 Tara's Community Corner

In this edition of Tara's Corner, Young Professionals of Racine would like to personally thank Edwin Dumke from FotoMusik Studios for, once again, being our photographer at the wine tasting gala held on Friday, October 18th.  Ed did a fantastic job with the 1920s-inspired photos and we thank him for his ongoing support.

Ed has been photographing people for over thirty years, and his experience shines in the images he captures.  Five years ago, due to his love of photography, he started his own company, FotoMusik, which specializes in events and portraits.  (One of Ed's specialties is photographing dancers, so hence FotoMusik's tag line, 'Images That Move You' was formed.)  To view Ed's fantastic work, please visit his website www.FotoMusik.com.

A few months ago, Ed started a new project called 'Project Pointe.'   The project takes Pointe ballerinas and photographs them in places you would not normally see them.  The images are then printed on metallic paper which gives it a 3D look with vibrant colors!!!  To view some of these amazing images, visit the Project Pointe Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/Projectpointe

For the last several years, Ed has been the main Photographer for Camp Erin a program of MargaretAnn's Place in addition to  "Dancing With Our Stars" benefits in Racine, Kenosha, and Milwaukee, all of which he feels are truly amazing.

Racine's Dancing with our Stars Gala

Saturday November 2, 2013 at 5:00pm

Racine's Festival Hall

MargaretAnn's Place will be hosting their annual fundraiser, "Dancing With Our Stars," at downtown Festival Hall on November 2nd to raise funds and awareness to further their mission and programming.  The fundraiser, based off the hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars," pairs local celebrities with professional dance partners who compete with each other in a friendly, but spirited, dance competition. Click here to purchase tickets to support your favorite celebrity dancer today!

The event will begin at 6pm with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent auction. We will then speak about MargaretAnn's Place and our mission, followed by a live auction and dance competition. We expect a crowd of approximately 300 guests to attend in support of their favorite dancers. (In addition to the dance competition, there is an award for Crowd Favorite to encourage our dancers to really involve the audience and get a great crowd out to learn about our mission.) We wish no one had to utilize our services, but since death touches all our lives, we want the community to be aware of our services, so those children and families will have a place to turn for support.

To learn more about options to sponsor this event and get your business advertised as part of your donation, please contact Loralei Marr by emailing

What: 19th Annual Racine Literacy Council Community Spelling Bee
When: Friday, November 8, 2013, 5:30 - 9:00 pm
Where: Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St. Racine, WI
Why? It's more exciting than a barrel of buzzing bees, and way more fun! The Racine Literacy Council presents the Community Spelling Bee each year to raise funds for its adult literacy programs, primarily one-to-one tutoring by trained volunteer tutors. These programs are central to helping our community realize the importance and impact of improving literacy in Racine County.
The Spelling Bee is a friendly, yet thoroughly exciting and spirited, competition among a field of 3-person teams. Everyone who participates is a winner, just for competing. The worst thing that can happen is you will learn a few new words to impress your friends and family. Companies/organizations are encouraged to sponsor a team of their own, or to sponsor or co-sponsor a team from a non-profit organization. See the registration form for sponsorship details, or to register your team today! You are also invited to attend the event as a spectator/fan. The evening begins with a delicious Roma Lodge dinner and cash bar. The competition gets underway a little after 6:00 pm. An audience participation spelling bee challenge, an "A-Z" Silent Auction and a Raffle round out the evening's activities.
You won't believe how much fun it is, until you experience it for yourself!
For more information about fielding a team, or sponsoring a team from a non-profit, or to make your dinner reservation, or to purchase raffle tickets, please contact the Racine Literacy Council.
