Season's First Downbeat - Saturday August 24

Please join us for our "orientation event" for new and returning musicians and families to meet with our Artistic Faculty, Administrative Staff, Board of Directors and other families prior to the first day of rehearsal. There is no need to bring your instruments to Season's First Downbeat.

 

Saturday ensembles: Sinfonia, Concert Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Concert Winds

10:30am to 12:00pm. 

 

Sunday ensembles: Concert Strings, Overture Strings, Overture Winds and Debut Classes

1:00pm to 2:30pm. 

 

Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and Philharmonia musicians will have a separate orientation on September 21 between the rehearsals.

 

A potluck lunch will be organized from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the patio area in the Casa Del Prado building.  Staff will direct you where to leave the food before you head to Room 207 for the orientation.

 

Please bring food based on your SDYS primary ensemble placement:

 

Main Dish (Sandwiches, etc) first downbeat

Side Dishes (Chips, Salad, Fruit, etc)

SDYS will provide Desserts, Beverages, Plates, Cups, Napkins and Silverware.

SAT Prep

  SAT prep

San Diego Youth Symphony and UCSD Extension have teamed up to offer SATŪ prep courses on Saturdays beginning October 5, 2013.

 

Sign up for SATŪ prep in Balboa Park so you can prepare for this important college entrance exam. SDYS and UCSD Extension are offering low cost prep courses in the weeks prior to the November 2nd SATŪ exam date (registration fee and application to College Board Exam is NOT included)

SDYS first rehearsal weekend is September 7 & 8.  We wanted to share some important links that you'll find handy through out the season.

 

Report an Absence

Weekly attendance at rehearsals is required at SDYS.  If you know in advance that you will not be attending rehearsal please communicate either by recording it on the "Report an Absence" clipboard at rehearsal or completing the online absence form on the website at least two weeks in advance.  You'll need your musicians ID# for the form and a reason for the absence is required.

Kid's-Eye View of the Park 2013

Budding shutterbugs, ages 6-17, are invited to flaunt their photographic talents and win great prizes by entering the  Kid's-Eye View of the Park photo contest. Among the prizes at stake are a week-long Summer Camp at the Museum of Photographic Arts, a Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Museum of Photographic Arts, a Family 4-Pack to the Zoo's Safari Park, tickets to other major park attractions, gift certificates, and more! The Kid's-Eye View of the Park Photo Contest, sponsored by Balboa Park Central, encourages participants to scout Balboa Park's kid-friendly attractions, lush grounds, historic architecture, and animals in the San Diego Zoo to snap their winning shot!

YoungArts Foundation

 

YoungArts provides emerging artists (ages 15-18 or grades 10-12) with life-changing experiences with renowned mentors, access to significant scholarships, national recognition, and other opportunities throughout their careers to help ensure that the nation's most outstanding young artists are encouraged to pursue careers in the arts.  Support is offered in ten artistic disciplines: cinematic arts, dance, design, jazz, music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing.

DYAO National Violin Concerto Competition

 

The Denver Young Artists Orchestra is pleased to announce the second triennial DYAO National Violin Concerto Competition.  The competition provides an opportunity for a talented young violinist to perform Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in e minor, op. 64 with DYAO, led by Music Director Wes Kenney, on its four concert international tour of Italy, France, and Spain in June 2014.
