Thank you to everyone one who joined us on July 4th for a Star Spangled Springfield.  We are fortunate to have generous sponsors and supporters to help us make it happen.
While the summer continues to heat up, we will be planning the cooler weather activities.  Bright Nights at Forest Park will be here before you know it!
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Star Spangled Springfield Sparkled
July 4th was a great evening to spend in Riverfront Park. Festival Field to the Memorial Bridge was packed with patriotic revelers.  They came to enjoy the music of Falcetti Music and Maxxtone.  They stayed for the amazing fireworks display, and they went home filled with pride for their community and their country.
Thank you to MassMutual Financial Group, the lead sponsor, as well as CBRE/Tower Square, Smith & Wesson, and MGM Springfield.  Other support came from the media, flatbed trailers and trucks, refreshments and more!  For the complete list visit

Grucci Makes the Magic
For the 25th year, Fireworks by Grucci brought their rockets red glare and  so much more to Springfield to make for a Star Spangled Springfield.  They first sent a musical score for approval.  They submitted a second and third before it was perfect.  The next step was to choreograph every charge, each burst and every element of design to the rhythm, beat and spirit of the music.
Following the detailed plan, the crew of pyrotechnicians and Springfield Department of Public Works made it all happen.  They laid out boxes on the bridge for the ground effects.  They wired charges to three flatbed trailers.
Lead pyrotechnician David Van Buskirk listened on a head set provided by Mix 93.1 FM.  At the exact moment, he lit the electronic charges.  Magic was made.

Judy Matt was there for Jesse's next milestone when he wed Suzanne Rodrigues on the beach in Newport, RI.

Nothing makes me more proud than being the founder and director of the "Ride-to-Remember."  In 2013, the Springfield Police Ride-to-Remember was started in memory of Officer Kevin Ambrose who was killed in the line-of-duty in September of 2012.

This year, we are raising money through rider registration and fundraising events to go to the "Schaivina - Beauregard Memorial Soccer Field".  Officers Michael Schaivina and Alain Beauregard lost their lives making an arrest 30 years ago. The field on Tinkham Road is overgrown and the dedication sign has fallen.  Both these Officers were my friends, Alain was my training officer.  If the roles were reversed and my name was on that monument, one of them would step up and get a proper memorial.

A new field is planned for South Branch Parkway with an awesome stone monument dedicated to these fallen police officers. The funds for this endeavor will come from the Ride-to-Remember.

I am so very thankful to the "Spirit of Springfield" for joining with me and the Ride-to-Remember to help raise funds to reach our goal. On August 25, from 11AM to 2PM. Judy Matt and her crew will be hosting the third annual "Spin-to-Remember".  180 Fit Gym us providing 15 spinning bikes that will be in front of One Financial Plaza provided.

I hope downtown businesses and individuals from across Western Massachusetts will come out and spin for a cause. All you have to do is sign up, give a donation and have fun!
