Star Spangled Springfield Announcement
 
With sponsors and supporters, the Spirit of Springfield announced plans for Star Spangled Springfield, sponsored by MassMutual.  It will be held Monday, July 4, for the 25th time.
 
At the announcement, Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt and Board Chair Jane Albert, were joined by Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Nick Fyntrilakis, Vice President of Community Responsibility, MassMutual, Colonel James Keefe, Commander of the 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes Air National Guard Base, Commissioner Joseph Conant, Springfield Fire Department, Commissioner John Barbieri, Springfield Police Department, and representatives from sponsors and supporters including CBRE - Tower Square, MGM Springfield, MassLive, Elegant Affairs, 90 Meat Outlet and Falcetti Music.
 
Colonel Keefe announced that the 104th Fighter Wing will support the event with a flyover.

July 4th Festivities
 
Riverfront Park will be the place to be on Monday, July 4th when the Spirit of Springfield presents a Star Spangled Springfield, sponsored by MassMutual.  The festivities will include patriotism, pyrotechnics and popular music. 
 
New to the festivities is Maxxtone.  Starting at 7:15PM, the four-member group will perform from a vast song list spanning from the classics to current hits.  They will have guests dancing in Festival Field and singing along to some favorites.   Opening for Maxxtone at 6PM will be student performers from Falcetti Music.

Two F-15 Jets from the 104th Fighter Wing will make a special appearance.
 
The highlight of the evening will be Fireworks by Grucci.  At 9:30PM, they will fill the Springfield skyline with bursts of brilliant colors and magical designs dancing to music broadcast on Mix 93.1FM.

Bright Nights Christmas in July
 For 12 days, July 12 to the 24, Bright Nights tickets will be sold at a discount--just $12 each with a minimum purchase of 12 tickets.  The is a savings of as much as $9 per ticket or $108 for the package.
 
Bright Nights car passes are great gifts for family, friends, employees and colleagues.

Star Spangled Surprize Squad 

The Western Mass News Surprize Squad is teaming up with Big Y World Class Markets and Friendly's on July 4th in Riverfront Park  free Sundae Cups.  The Ice cream will be available at 6:30PM while supplies last.  

The ice cream giveaway is a part of Big Y World Class Market's 80th Anniversary.
Great Day of Golf
   
The field of golfers totaled 144 for the Spirit of Springfield Golf Classic, sponsored by Western Mass News.  It was the largest turnout ever for the tournament which has been held annually since 1993.
 
Congratulations to the winning foursome from the Springfield Marriott - Bill Hess, Larry Bechard, Aaron Porcelli and Jeff Levin. 
 
Following the tournament, Chicopee Mayor Richard Kos took home the Mayor's Cup for the third consecutive year.  He out putted Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt, and State Representative Angelo Puppulo.

Planning for City of Bright Nights Ball
 
The Spirit of Springfield has already started planning for our largest fundraiser of the year, the City of Bright Nights Ball.   It will be held Saturday, November 12 at the Sheraton Springfield.  The black-tie gala will feature a gourmet dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and a 50/50 raffle.  MGM Springfield has already committed to donate a great travel package for the live auction.
 
Tickets are $500 per couple with all proceeds from the event supporting free, family-friendly activities like the upcoming Star Spangled Springfield and the Parade of the Big Balloons.

Another summer, another spectacular Fourth of July celebration to enjoy! The Fourth of July is such a wonderful time for Americans to come together in solidarity and celebrate our country's independence. With more than 100,000 people expected to watch the show, this event always provides a world-class experience and gives us a true sense of community.
