With a room filled with sponsors, supporters, donors and volunteers, the Spirit of Springfield announced plans for the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast taking place on Saturday, May 16. It marks the third year Springfield's birthday celebration is being sponsored by MGM Springfield.

MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis was named as the Honorary Chairman and Paul Picknelly graciously accepted the honor on his behalf. Retired Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet, who served as the 2014 Honorary Chair, presented Mathis' official jacket and reminded him that he is responsible for a warm, sunny morning.

It takes 500 gallons of pancake batter and thousands of plates to stock up for the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast. Thanks to several local companies, the Spirit of Springfield has acquired everything it needs to serve up a hot hearty breakfast in the middle of Main Street on Saturday, May 16.

Baystate Health and Mansfield Paper donated the paper products. H. P. Hood is providing the milk, juice and creamer, as well as two refrigerator trucks to keep it all cold. Performance Food Service is donating the third truck and enough pancake mix for Mercy Medical Center to mix 500 gallons. There will be Carando Classic Italian bacon on the side. Cabot Creamery has 200 pounds of butter pads to top the pancakes and the Sheraton Springfield is donating and brewing hundreds of gallons of coffee.

The Springfield Business Improvement District with the Springfield Department of Public Works will keep Main Street tidy. The Springfield Police Department will keep everyone safe and the Springfield Fire Department will have several pieces of equipment on display.

Barney Carriage House Renovations

Barney
After 18 years, the Barney Carriage House in Forest Park is getting refreshed with new wallpaper, window treatments, carpeting as well as photographs of Everett Barney and his original estate. Leslie Bercume, who has designed many City of Bright Nights Ball invitations, has lent her expertise as an interior decorator to the project. She spent many hours in the Lyman & Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History to insure authenticity.

Michael Mathis
President
MGM Springfield
2015 Pancake
Breakfast Chairman

It is my honor to be serving
as the 2015 chairman of the most delicious tradition in all of Massachusetts.  For the third year in a row MGM Springfield is excited to be part of The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast, and I am proud to be following in the footsteps of prior chairs of this event, including my boss, Jim Murren and good friend, Paul Picknelly.

This distinct event was one
of those early moments in Springfield that captured our imagination, and allowed us
to see the possibilities for rejuvenating this great American city. We were especially inspired by the  teams of volunteers from Springfield's business, political and non-profit communities, who give of themselves so that families, neighbors and friends can share a meal together in a proud downtown that refuses to quit. In fact, this event was the inspiration for the MGM Springfield Downtown Dinner Table in Court Square, an event we intend to make an annual tradition.

Contributing to the pride of community is something
MGM Resorts knows well;
we celebrate our social responsibility in numerous ways, from parades honoring ethnic diversity, to road races supporting cancer research, and festivals highlighting the values of environmental responsibility. We feel strongly that these opportunities make our company and our employees healthier in every way, and look forward to continuing our record of service in Springfield and Western Massachusetts for years to come.
