Spring has sprung and we are ready to take the fun outdoors! First, we are going to spruce up Main Street on May 3 and then we are going to roll out the tables for the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast on May 10.

I hope you will be able to be a part of the fun and the flapjacks!

From Police Commissioner to Pancake Breakfast Chair

Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet accepted the largest challenge of his 42-year career in public safety. He agreed to serve as the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast Chair. Presenting him with the official attire, a Spirit of Springfield jacket, was Paul Picknelly from Monarch Enterprises and the 2007 breakfast chair. Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Pancake Breakfast Chairman Peter Lappin, Dennis Murphy for MGM Springfield, volunteers and supporters were on hand for the announcement.

Roll call for the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast will be Saturday, May 10 at 8AM and will last until the last the last flapjack has been flipped. Besides a hot hearty breakfast with pancakes from Performance Food Group, Carando Classic Italian bacon, H. P. Hood orange juice and milk, and coffee, there will be lots to experience. The Springfield Police and Fire Departments will have displays, as will McDonald's and Six Flags. There will be horse-drawn wagon and train ride, and kick line that will run the length of the pancake breakfast table.

For a second year, MGM Springfield is sponsoring the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast which is celebrating Springfield's 378th birthday.

Making Main Street Shiny and Bright

Calling all sweepers! The Spirit of Springfield and the Springfield Business Improvement District are joining forces for SPRINGfield Clean-Up on Saturday, May 3 from 9AM to 12Noon. The goal is to sweep away all signs of winter and make Main Street shiny and bright for upcoming outdoor activities like the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast, Star Spangled Springfield and the Stearns Square Concert Series.

Registration will begin at 9AM in Court Square where trash bags, brooms and garden gloves will be distributed. Volunteers will then receive their assignment and go to their section of Main Street. At noon when all the bags have been loaded in to the truck, pizza will be served.

Volunteers will be entered in to a drawing for prizes that will bring them back to downtown Springfield for dining and entertainment including CityStage, The Fort, Palazzo Café, Theodore's and more. Free parking for all participants will be in the Civic Center Garage courtesy of the Springfield Parking Authority.

For more information, contact the Springfield Business Improvement District at 413-781-1591.

U. S. Air Force Heritage of America Band Wow's Crowd

The U. S. Air Force Heritage of American Band filled Springfield Symphony Hall with the musical talents of 45 professional airmen musicians. Guest Corner

Pattie McKnight,

McDonald's Owner/Operator,

Each year, your local Connecticut and Western Massachusetts McDonald's® restaurants look forward to the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast event. McDonald's has proudly supported this community gathering for the past six years, and each year we're welcomed with open arms into downtown Springfield for one of our favorite events of spring!

Over the years, Ronald McDonald has performed stage shows and delighted young audiences. We've sampled many of our great McCafé beverages. And McDonald's continues to bring its signature, interactive tent where event attendees can play games and enjoy new product coupons and giveaways - always free of charge.

We take pride in being part of the greater Springfield community with over 10 restaurants in the immediate area that support local events, such as the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast and others, like our annual McScholar Awards that honors Western Massachusetts high school student athletes and our Ronald McDonald House Charities© scholarship program. Your local McDonald's owner/operators from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts are once again, proud to support this event and the Spirit of Springfield.
