Agency Relations Reorganization
We want to wish every one of our partner agencies the very best New Year! 2012 was a successful year because of the hard work and dedication you so ably demonstrated. Through you, we helped 500,000 households, served 3.6 million meals and 1.7 million snacks, and distributed 25.3 million pounds of food. Add to that the SNAP benefits resulting from the 2867 interviews our team conducted through your agencies which totals an estimated impact of 3,671,065 additional meals.
We have made some changes in responsibilities for our program department. The following are the correct contacts for these areas of change:

Here's What's Cookin' in the Kitchen
Dates for Information Sessions for Prospective Students
Do you know someone that is interested in a career in the foodservice industry? Are they at least 18 years of age? If so, please have them attend one of our Community Kitchen info sessions. These meetings will be at the Tarrant Area Food Bank February 11 at 1 p.m. and February 12 at 9 a.m. Potential applicants only need to attend one meeting. There is no need to pre-register or bring anything. The goal of our program is employment so we are looking for folks that don't mind working nights, weekends and holidays in a sometimes stressful environment. Direct any questions about the culinary arts/job training program to the Community Kitchen Coordinator at 817-332-9177 ext. 144 or barbara.higbee@tafb.org. Class 21 will begin April 6, 2013.
Community KitchenMeals Sale
Production of the one pound meals has hit an all time high so we have plenty on hand. We know January and February is traditionally a slower donation period so we are offering these meals at half price: the case of 54 meals is usually $22.68 but will be only $11.34. We encourage you to consider these nutritious, yummy creations as you make at your shopping list. |

SNAP Happenings
The SNAP department is pleased to announce two new tools to help fight hunger.
The first tool is the TAFB SNAP Outreach information line. Agencies and clients will now be able to call 1-866-430-6143 to reach the SNAP department. Agencies will be able to order application packets for their offices as well as get more information on SNAP and other state benefits. Clients will be able to request applications or set up face to face assistance with one of the SNAP Representatives in their area. They will also be able to change personal information or get information about their accounts that were previously handled by a TAFB SNAP Specialist.
The second tool is a postage-paid return envelop in all of our application packets. Now the clients can send their completed applications and supporting documents directly to the TAFB SNAP department. Once a completed application is received, we will follow-up directly with the client. Please let us know if you would like fliers to promote this new tool to your clients and call us with any questions or concerns. Our goal is to help you help your clients! |

Partner Agency Center
I hope you have all created your account on the Partner Agency Center on www.tafb.org. If not, please take the time to create your account and browse around on the website to see what all is in the Center. The link to the Partner Agency Center is http://tafb.org/partner-agency-center.html. New content will be added to the website on a regular basis.
We have just added a new sample intake form. The form will be available in both PDF and Word so you can download it to your computer and edit it to meet your needs. This form demonstrates the information required by the Texas Department of Agriculture for food assistance. Some intake forms ask unnecessary information and create barriers that prevent people from receiving food. This form is an attempt to remove those barriers.
Client Documentation & Store Donation Reports
All reporting for store donation and client documentation needs to be done from the Partner Agency Center. After February 28, we will no longer accept faxed and emailed reports. Once you have created your account, go to the Center and select Report Forms, then Agency Client Documentation. This is a form you complete online and submit online. You will see a confirmation message that your report has been sent after you click submit. You will not receive an email confirmation.
If you need help with reporting on the Partner Agency Center, contact Jeanette Scott, Agency Relations Coordinator. |

Why do volunteers volunteer?
Have you ever asked your volunteers why they do it? There are a number of reasons people give time to an organization or cause, some reasons not so obvious.
A few of the top reasons people "give back" include:
- Make friends
- Do your civic duty
- Feel needed
- Learn a new skill
- Career enhancement
- School/institution requirement
- For fun
- Become a change agent
With these in mind, how do you design volunteer roles? Are they fun? Can volunteers learn something new and exciting? Can new friends and relationships be made?
Think about volunteers' motivations for giving their time and don't forget to tell them what they will gain by volunteering with your organization. This will keep volunteers interested and coming back for more. |
