CONGRATULATIONS TO GRAY GHOST. GEWURZTRAMINER SWEEPS COMPETITIONS.
Gray Ghost's 2013 Gewurztraminer recently took Gold at three prominent wine competitions, the Pacific Rim International in California, Finger Lakes International in New York and Tasters Guild International in Michigan. In addition, Gray Ghost Winery brought home a total of seven Silver medals and four Bronze medals.
The Gewurztraminer grape has its origins in Germany and is grown extensively in New York, Oregon and Washington states. For a Virginia Gewurztraminer to be awarded Gold on both coasts, in wine regions known for producing internationally acclaimed Gewurztraminer, is a major accomplishment.

With our James River Wine & Music Festival behind us, we were ready for some R&R. So, on June 6 we set out on a weekend excursion to northern Virginia, where we stopped at two of the state's premier wineries, Potomac Point in Stafford and Douknie. We had the opportunity to meet with Potomac Point's new winemaker, David Pagan Castao, and owners, Cindi and Skip Causey. At Douknie, we shared a glass of wine on the porch overlooking the picturesque grounds and vineyards, with owners Nicki and George Bazaco, who have been heavily involved in Virginia's wine industry since opening their winery in 1983.
You can read about Potomac Point, Winery of the Month in our June issue, and Douknie, Winery of the Month, this past March. Just visit www.vawinelover.com and click on Archived eNewsletters.
