New Jersey ranked last in business tax climate once again
| |
New Jersey settled into last place in the nonpartisan Tax Foundation's new ranking of state business tax climates released Tuesday. New York, which enacted comprehensive corporate tax reform this year, solidified its grip on 49th place ahead of perennial basement rival New Jersey.
The Tax Foundation report said the 10 worst states have complex, non-neutral taxes with comparatively high rates.
"New Jersey, for example, suffers from some of the highest property-tax burdens in the country, is one of just two states to levy both an inheritance and an estate tax, and maintains some of the worst structured individual income taxes in the country," the report states.
Richard Perniciaro, director of Atlantic Cape Community College's Center for Regional and Business Research, said state government unfortunately has chosen to award tax relief and grants to a handful of specific companies rather than pursue general tax reform.

2015 Listings Needed!
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting special event listings for the 2015 edition of the Calendar of Events (a copy of the 2014 edition is enclosed). This publication is very popular with summer visitors, second home owners and year round residents as the go-to source for special events in Cape May County and is complimented with our calendar listings as well. Research conducted by the Cape May County Department of Tourism reports that 34% of visits to Cape May County included attending a special event and you won't want to miss this opportunity to list your events.
Special events information may be submitted in a Microsoft Word Document (only) and emailed to Brigitta Scott at [email protected]. Due to brochure space constraints, please provide only the following information for each event:
Date, Name of Event*, Address of Event, Time, Fee ($) or Free
Website or phone Number (Your choice of which to be included)
In order to meet our publication deadline to promote spring events and encourage summer reservations, events must be submitted by January 16, 2015. We understand that while your calendar may not be finalized with every event for the year, don't miss this opportunity to include your confirmed events. Additional event listings can be added to the online version of the Calendar of Events.
Contact John Kelly for advertising opportunities in the Calendar of Events.
*The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce reserves editorial discretion for the 2015 Cape May County Calendar of Events. Municipalities with few events may be combined geographically in the final layout for space considerations. Events not submitted in the requested format assume the risk of not being included in the publication.

for the Cape Tech Business Advisory Board
The Cape May Tech Business Services program is looking for a few good businesspersons to be active members of its Business Advisory Board. "The best way to learn is by doing. And the best way for my students to learn is by hearing what people in business are doing," said Ed Leszczynski, instructor of the Business Services program. "I'm looking for anyone who owns a business, runs a business or works in a business, and who is interested in talking with students about business finance, marketing, human resources or general business operations." If you think that this might be of interest to you and you want to learn more, please contact Ed Leszczynski at [email protected].
