Action Alert
J-1 Visa Program Under Threat

The Summer Work Travel Program (J-1 Visa International Student) is under serious threat of being eliminated.  This program is vitally important to all of New Jersey for the success of our tourism industry.  Whether or not your business employs Summer Work Travel students, without this program in place which provides tourism destinations with employees to supplement the local work force, our tourism economy will be negatively affected.

You can help save this program by contacting New Jersey Congressman Chris Smith who sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Ed Royce who are the chairs of the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees respectively. These committees are currently reviewing H.R. 4586, the Fraudulent Overseas Recruiting and Trafficking Elimination Act of 2014 (aka FORTE Act). Let them know that including the J-1 visa Exchange Visitor Program (EVP), and specifically the Summer Work Travel (SWT) program, in such anti-trafficking initiatives is unnecessary.

It is VERY important that you act today as this legislation could be called up at any time.

Turtle Crossing!
Diamond Back Terrapin Nesting Season

Watch for Diamondback Terrapincrossing local roadways on their way to or from high ground, where they lay eggs. Turtle fencing has been placed in many areas to prevent turtles from being struck by vehicles. If you should come across a turtle and wish to assist it, help it cross in the direction it was going. If you should find hatchling turtles, place them under vegetation in the nearest marsh, but not in the water. Please-be aware of your own safety on the road if attempting to help a turtle!

Promote Your Summer Adventure

The Cape May County Chamber has been promoting the Jersey Cape area with a Call To Action ad campaign entitled "Find Your Summer Adventure Here". This is your chance to promote the summer adventures your business offers on our Jersey Cape Vacation Guide website.

Tells us why vacationers and locals alike should visit your business for some summer fun. Suggestions for topics include amusement rides, golf, fishing, water sports, dining, wine tasting, craft beer, nature tourism, hidden gems, biking, exercise while on vacation, and renting a property at the shore. Send John Kelly a brief description and photo (optional) of an activity that would attract our visitors to your business for inclusion in our headliners feature.*
