Deadline Extended for Disaster Assistance to March 1, 2013
Cape May County residents are urged to follow through with all options to gain grants or low cost loans to rebuild their homes impacted by Super Storm Sandy. Renters are urged to apply, as well as home owners.
All county residents impacted by the storm must apply first to FEMA at 1 800 621- FEMA or www.disasterassistance.gov. FEMA will review your filing and determine if you are eligible for a SBA loan for home repair and replacement needs up to the loan limit.
Residents must complete the application and send it in by March 1,2013 to be eligible to receive a loan. Residents will have six months after the loan is approved to decide if they want it. This is helpful if someone is waiting for insurance or other funding and does not yet know the amount they will be getting.
If a resident does not submit the paperwork and finds out later that they need a loan, they will not be eligible to apply if they have not submitted the paperwork by March 1, 2013.
Residents can apply electronically at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/
All residents, renters and homeowners, whose homes were impacted by the storm should maximize their options by submitting the paperwork to the SBA as early as possible but no later than March 1, 2013.

Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Calls for $20 Million Supplemental Emergency Funding to Promote New Jersey Tourism
Tourism Funding
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors passed a resolution in support of a legislation calling for $20 million emergency supplemental funding to address the negative image of New Jersey tourism destinations created by the national media during coverage of Hurricane Sandy.
Assembly bill 3630 and Senate bill 2435 supports this measure which was promoted by the New Jersey Travel Industry Association. The purpose of the bill is to provide the Division of Travel and Tourism with funds to advertise New Jersey's tourism destinations, specifically the shore area which generates $20 billion in tourism revenues. "Tourism is a revenue generator for New Jersey and studies show that for every $1 spent to promote tourism, a return of $36 is realized", stated Vicki Clark, President of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the NJTIA. "National media coverage during and after Hurricane Sandy created the perception that the entire 127 miles of New Jersey's coast was destroyed. Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina are using that to their advantage and are aggressively marketing to our customer base."
In promoting the need for this emergency funding, NJTIA President Sharon Franz encouraged members of the Legislature to pass this bill quickly in order to launch a marketing campaign in March. "Some areas of New Jersey did experience severe damage to their beaches, boardwalks, and businesses and will take months, even years to rebuild. However, the majority of our coastline is open for business and ready for summer vacationers. We need to make sure that everyone who traditionally enjoys the Jersey Shore, continues to vacation in New Jersey, even if that means that this year, they book their stay in a different part of The Shore."
