The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island

Diocesan eNews
Greetings!

In this issue, you will find opportunities to grow in faith, mission, and ministry -- from summer camp at ECC, to paid internships at JDH, to a wealth of opportunities to make an impact in this diocese and beyond. Thanks for reading!

New issue of RISEN Magazine now online:
Growing in Mission and Vitality

The Spring issue of RISEN Magazine should have hit your mailbox by now, but it is online now as well! This issue's articles examine how we can grow as a church, including:

Mission and Gospel (Bishop Nicholas Knisely)
"To paraphrase Martin Luther, risk boldly! And trust even more boldly in God's grace and presence in the risk. Listen to God in your life and in your congregation. What small new thing can you try that God might use to open your or another person's heart?"

What Kind of Church Are You? (The Rev. Canon Linda Grenz)
"We are called to be the church -- to be the people and places where people encounter the Risen Christ and are transformed by him. We do that by creating sacred spaces where we worship God, study the Scriptures, build community, and are nourished for the work we have been given to do. We do that by going forth, seeking and serving Christ in all people and in all places. We do that by inviting others into our churches, into our lives, and into life in Christ. What kind of church are you?"

And more . . .

Articles on the chaplaincy at Brown and RISD; new churches to serve Hispanic, autistic, and alternative worship communities; an inspiring collaboration to fill Saint George's food pantry; and Church Beyond the Walls, among many others. Get it all online.

Episcopal Conference Center (ECC) gears up for summer

For more than 50 years young people have been coming to ECC to establish lifelong friendships, enjoy a safe and sacred environment, and deepen their relationship with God. We offer eight overnight sessions each summer for people of all ages. Take a look at the schedule and see which weeks work for you and your family.

Family Camp is almost sold out already, and last year Summer's end filled up as well so don't delay -- register today!

Three chances to get involved across R.I.

Want to make a difference but don't know how?

Diocesan Leadership: Deaneries are making recommendations to the Elections Committee to fill this year's seats on diocesan leadership bodies.Talk to your church's rep to your deanery to get involved.

Handicap Accessibility:
The property committee is looking for architects and designers with experience in handicap accessibility. Email the Rev. Linda Grenz if you know someone who'd be great.

Sharing Your Voice:
Episcopal Church Women (ECW) wants to hear from you -- even if you're not female or an Episcopalian. The group has appointed an ad hoc committee to look at the mission and purpose of ECW, and at the structure and function of the board. They have posted a survey targeted at a broad audience. It takes less than five minutes and closes June 30.

Wanted: Recent college grads

Jonathan Daniels House (JDH) might be the place for you.

The job market is tough. It's hard to get jazzed about moving back home. What's a grad to do?

Consider a 10-month stipendiary internship and Christian formation mentorship through JDH, an intentional, residential service community located in south Providence.

JDH Fellows live in a shared residence and spend five days a week serving in a social service organization. They also commit to regular prayer, worship, and study, and will learn leadership skills and spiritual practices that they can use for the rest of their lives.

Learn more about this opportunity.
