Did you come to Wardens Day? Thank you!

We offer sincere thanks to all who attended our recent Wardens Day. We learned a lot about the needs and desires of our 51 churches' vestries, and we will be including many of the resources you've asked for in future editions of this eResource. At your next vestry meeting, please check with all vestry members to make sure they're getting these emails. If they aren't and would like to sign up, they can do so here.

Not your average Easter egg hunt

What is your plan for engaging Easter visitors?

This story shows how one church has re-invented their Easter egg hunt . . . for good:

Like many churches, Good Samaritan in San Diego sees an upsurge in attendance on Easter Sunday. And like many churches, it seeks to welcome those visitors and make them feel at home, in part by offering an egg hunt for children.

But last year the church realized that their egg hunt didn't do much to tell the Easter story. So parishioners set to work revamping their tradition.

They still have an Easter egg hunt -- but one tiny change has transformed it into an expression of Christian giving. Here's what they did.

When does spending money increase your coffers?

If you ask pastor Laura Heikes, she'll say it's when you prayerfully commit to the Christian call to care for others.

She should know. Three years ago, her church set an ambitious goal to give 10 percent of its budget to outreach. Heikes was initially concerned about spending money that was sorely needed elsewhere. And yet, she now writes:

"This has turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. We are gaining a reputation . . . as a church that cares and invests in the lives of the broken. The church is excited and vital. We are living out one of our core beliefs -- that we can change the world. And, in three years, our giving is up almost 50 percent!"
