Vestry eResource
Greetings!
If you are a new vestry member, welcome to your first issue of our monthly Vestry eResource! In each issue we offer resources to help vestries feel empowered and supported in their service to the church. We hope you enjoy it.

Your Wardens coming to Wardens Day? Check for us?

Warden's day is only a few weeks away, but not all churches have submitted their 2014 parish info form to the Bishop's Office yet, so your new wardens may not have received an email about this event.  Please check with them or forward this email so they have a chance to register. To make sure we have the correct emails for your new vestry members, ask if your Parish Administrator has filled out their parish info form. If not, make sure we get it ASAP so your vestry doesn't miss anything important.

WARDENS DAY Registration and details.

Saturday, March 29, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at St. John's in Barrington

Roadmap for Senior Wardens

So you're a Senior Warden. Now what?

First of all, take a deep breath and remember that you're not alone -- not in human terms, and certainly not in the spiritual sense. You can gather a team of trustworthy advisors around you. And you stand in a long line of senior wardens -- a communion of saints -- whose experience and wisdom can support you.

Demi Prentiss, ministry developer for the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, says that before you develop any action items, you need to take stock: What are your resources, what are your challenges, and where will you find allies or mentors?

This article offers some starter questions to inspire your stocktaking and help identify your passions, skills, growing edges, and essential resources.

New Resources for Leaders

On Sat., March 1, 270 people gathered for the 2014 Learn and Lead at St. Luke's in East Greenwich.

The topic was "Forming Faithful Leaders" and we looked at how healthy, faithful, and effective churches require leaders that model those characteristics.

Workshop resources are now available here.

Whether you just need a refresher or weren't able to attend, you can view the workshop presentations from Leadership in a Time of Anxiety; Engaging Young Adults; Leading Meetings for Spiritual Growth; RenewalWorks; Leading through Planned Change; and Developing, Enabling, and Equipping Leaders.

While you're online, please help us plan future Learn and Lead events by taking our brief survey.

Tips to Running More Efficient Meetings

Monthly vestry meetings are too often testaments to endurance rather than efficiency. They run long, they consume vast amounts of time for those involved, and members leave wondering whether there isn't a better way.

In this article from ECF Vital Practices, Bob Schorr, coordinator of church plants and strategic development for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and a facilitator and non-profit governance consultant, writes that a consent agenda can be used to speed things along.

A consent agenda is a collection of items that require action by the vestry, but that can be dispatched without further discussion, debate, or information. Here's how it works.
