Joint Episcopal and RI Lutheran Clergy Day with Bishops Knisely and Hazelwood
When:
Thursday, May 1, 10:00 to 4:00 pm
What: A time for Episcopal and Lutheran clergy to explore what we can do together
In January 2001, The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America entered into a relationship of full communion, in which the two churches retained their autonomy and structure but agreed to work together for joint mission and witness. Bishops Knisely and Hazelwood have been talking about just that -- what local Rhode Island congregations can do together to further the work of Jesus Christ -- and they are looking to draw members of the clergy into the deepening conversation.
Please mark May 1 on your calendar and join us to explore the many exciting possibilities.

Encourage your vestry to listen to God's call
Ongoing Discernment: The Way of Jesus
In this article from ECF Vital Practices, the Rev. Blair Pogue writes about a process of ongoing discernment in her parish -- exploring people's hopes and hungers and leading to a shared vision of the Christian life in their particular context. The result? A set of core spiritual practices that continue to frame parish conversations and shape mission and ministry. Why not encourage your vestry to lead a conversation in your setting? What would your core practices be?

Where Life Has Meaning: Poor, Religious Countries
As a culture, we seem peculiarly obsessed with the idea of happiness:
Are parents more or less happy than childless couples? Are Californians happier than other Americans? Where in the world do the happiest people live? And, importantly, what makes them so happy?
Acknowledging that many factors contribute to a person's sense of wellbeing, scientists think that one of the keys is a highly developed sense of purpose or meaning.

Learn about digital faith formation
June 2-4, 2014
Virginia Theological Seminary
In the annual e-Formation conference at VTS, explore such topics as Facebook and Twitter, expanding your church's use of social media, sharing faith stories through videos and blogs, and designing online formation opportunities.
Last year, 200 church leaders from at least five denominations and four countries gathered for this three-day conference on faith formation for a connected, digital world.
The Rev. Kevin Lloyd of St. Matthew's, Jamestown was there and learned how to design a new parish website for free.
