Greetings!

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) & Your Church

You may be wondering how the much talked about Affordable Care Act (ACA) will affect your church and it's employees. Thankfully, ECF Vital Practices has put together this list of tools to help you sort out what your church must do to be in compliance with the new act.

Please note that one requirement is for you to provide notice of the ACA healthcare option to your employees by October 1st. As this deadline has already passed, please don't delay in utilizing the resources found in this article and giving notice, if you haven't already!

Alcoholic Beverages at Church

Diocesan Council recently voted to approve a policy for the service of alcoholic beverages in Church, to both protect the church and those who may imbibe. Download a copy to keep on hand as a reference.

Things you may not know about your insurance

Did you know that Church Insurance may pay for upgrades required by code changes if you have have a triggering incident such as a fire or leak? If as part of the repair you are required to bring the building up to current code, insurance may cover that cost.

Insurance is a complex system so here is an article from Church Pension Group about how you can get the most out of yours.

Pay particular attention to the code changes section, and what it means to insure your church to replacement cost vs market value.

Youth & Vestries

Our 76th General Convention passed a legislation encouraging churches to include young people in congregational leadership.

Young people can bring a sense of vitality and a fresh perspective to the vestry, and the work can also be a formational experience for them as they discern their vocation

The EpiscoYouth blog has some great advice on how to successfully include youth in your leadership.

NOTE: those under 18 are not able to conduct legal business in RI. Giving them voice but not vote will solve this issue.
