High Holiday Ushers Needed

Thanks to those of you who for many past High Holiday services have given of your time to assist with the ushering duties.  I would like to ask for your support again. For those who have not volunteered as an usher during the services, I would like ask you to consider volunteering this year, if your schedule permits. Ushers are needed for four (4) times during the High Holidays, as follows:

Erev Rosh Hashanah: Sunday, October 2nd- one or two ushers arrive by 7:00 PM, remainder by 7:15-7:30 PM

Rosh Hashanah: Monday, October 3rd- one or two ushers arrive by 9:00 AM, remainder by 9:15-9:30 AM

Kol Nidre: Tuesday, October 11th - one or two ushers arrive by 7:00 PM, remainder by 7:15-7:30 PM

Yom Kippur: Wednesday, October 12th - one or two ushers arrive by 9:00 AM, remainder by 9:15-9:30 AM

At least four (4) ushers are need for each service.

If you able to volunteer for one or two of the days, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know which day(s) and which times.  Once I receive that information, I will prepare a schedule.

You can respond to this message (Marti's email) or to my email  tvgammon@bellsouth.net

What's the Latest on the Mussar Program?

Since Temple Beth Or wants to promote the Mussar program to the community-at-large, we are delaying the start of the program until October 8th.

Just to refresh your memory, Mussar is the study of Jewish ethics and morality, which will help participants explore the practicesnecessary to become more decent human beings. The program, conducted by RabbiMark Kram, in conjunction with the Mussar Institute, will focus on makingpositive conscious choices and mindful actions towards oneself and others and tominimize those traits that are less desirable in each of us.

This program willbe held bi-monthly on the Saturday mornings (10:15 - 11:45 AM) after Rabbi Kram has led services the night before.

We are charging our members only for the cost of the program materials ($36) and will charge non-members $75.  In addition, you do not have to be able to attend every one of the sessions but you will still be able to download and print out all the materials online.

Since we are delaying the start of Mussar, please have a check made out to Beth Or (Mussar in the memo line) for $36 by Tuesday, September 27th.

This is a year long endeavor that will be very enlightening!

Good Shabbos and Happy Birthday, All in One!

We are celebrating Mark's 65th birthday with the congregation on Friday night, Sept 23 and inviting congregants to come celebrate with us.

We'll be planning a celebratory Oneg Shabbat -- and somebody we know likes chocolate, and rumor has it that there just might be an ice cream cake.

Stay tuned!

Beth Or's response to Zika:

In response to the Zika outbreak, all of the plants, notably bromeliads, and any potential water catchers, have been sprayed with both mosquito insecticide and oil to kill mosquitos and larvae.  Placing oil (eg, vegetable, olive, etc,) in the bromeliad cups prevents larvae from growing there.  Concerned plant owners are encouraged to do the same.

Thanks, Marcy
