It's Yard Sale Time

YARD SALE FINALS!  Our third sale brought us $1500 (WOW), bringing our yard sale total to $10,500!  Our previous record high was $8000, so there was something very special about this year's effort: high quality and quantity donations, huge volunteer participation, and our loyal customers.

Special thanks to those who gave their time and energy for the third sale:  Kathy, Rowena, Sara, Michael, Amy, Gail, Cathy T., Tom, Janie, George, Linda, Norma and Howard, Jane, Andrea, Pat, Bette, Karen, Glenn and Mel.

Now, we turn to distributing to charities.  Dr. Flora has been busy selecting cottons for the migrants. Merchandise is being sent to Haiti and to benefit other ministries of our in-house Church, clothing will be sent  to Chapman Partnership for the homeless, and the Power Church will collecting the remainder for folks in recovery.

Merchandise is now free to Temple members, so help yourself to a good book or new jacket.

Again, THANK YOU to all who made the yard sale such a great success.

baseball-glove.jpg We're Taking Ourselves Out to the Ball Game!

The bus is full!  We are at capacity with current reservations!

On Sunday afternoon, June 26, our group of Beth Or members and friends will celebrate Jewish Heritage Day at Marlins Park when the Marlins take on the Chicago Cubs.

The seats are booked, the bus is reserved, and we'll give you details in a week or so about when to arrive at TBO to meet the bus.

Thank you for the great response!

Note from the Office

We've been having some trouble accessing and updating our Google Calendar, so please take what's on it with a grain of salt.  When in doubt, call or email the Temple office to confirm dates and times.

We'll be consulting our web maven to see what can be done.  Stay tuned.

Mango Season Approaches

They are looking good!

Get the mango recipes out and prepare for what we hope will be a bumper crop.  We should be seeing some ripe fruit in just a week or two.

Climate Ground-Zero Rally

On behalf of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, an initiative of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, you are invited to attend an upcoming event whose goals are integral to both the well-being of the greater Miami community and the Jewish principle of
tikkun olam. Miami is already facing climate-driven sea level rise, and the consequences are most devastating in low-income communities who are often disempowered in decision-making processes.

To draw attention to the crises of climate change and the needs of vulnerable communities, the Miami Climate Alliance is hosting a "Climate Ground Zero Rally: Demanding Equity in Miami's Climate Crisis." The event will take place at the Torch of Friendship on Tuesday, June 14th at 12 pm.

The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life is helping to coordinate the rally with secular and interfaith counterparts who will be in Miami for the concurrent US Climate Action Network Conference, as well as local organizations. You are invited to attend the rally and spread the word; we especially encourage you to visit us on Facebook for mor information:   https://www.facebook.com/events/999055906810736/

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!
gardening-items.jpg

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN needs green thumbs!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

Just a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters energize our Garden areas  - you have the infrastructure.  Cultivate your own plot at Beth Or and'ro help our next communal crop of bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicinals.

Over 20 years ago Beth Orians wer Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth -- Keepers of the Garden of Eden, aspiring to the highest standards of earth ethics.  We can and will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, with proven techniques such as companion planting, insect control, etc.  With today's high prices, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus, it is a part of a healthy lifestyle, providing hands-on education and a social communal experience.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."
