At the Lighthouse Cafe, Saturday night, October 31,
Halloween Night!

A remarkable duo and songwriting contest winners...

If you like Jazz, Bossa Nova, and original compositions, you'll love Max & Edda.

In 2014 Max Hatt / Edda Glass played at
Lincoln Center, NYC, won grand-prize at the Mountain Stage / NewSong Contest and generally defied categorization.

2015 sees them play coast to coast from Seattle to NYC, including Sundance Film Festival's ASCAP Music Cafe, a headlining concert at Lincoln Center, and opening sets for Dweezil Zappa, Romero Lubambo, and Autumn Defense.

In 2016 they will appear on NPR Mountain Stage, and NewSong Recordings will release their new album this spring, produced by Pat Sansone of Wilco & Autumn Defense, and recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC.

They have this to say: We're interested in stories. How a melody comes home soundly to a place it didn't grow up. How a major chord troubles your sleep with minor insinuations. How we look to the horizon, no matter how wide the plain between us.

You can check them out at maxhatteddaglass.com

Holiday Bazaar

Our 6th annual holiday bazaar is November 15th. Let's make this the best ever!

If you know anyone who would like to participate, please call Rhoni 305 253 4155. Sorry, no more jewelry vendors!

Those who have been asking, my friend Dixie will be joining us again this year with her beautiful handmade bead jewelry...all the way from Annapolis!

The flyer for the bazaar is available for you to give to your favorite merchants or post in your apartment or condo communities.

Looking at a New Direction

Hi Everyone,

In preparing to do "lay leader" Friday night services, I have learned so much via the internet and all of it's wonderful resources.  Every time I click on a link, it takes me to another link and so on.  There is so much information, history, mishnah, and wisdom to uncover that makes the Friday night service more meaningful to me.
I'd like to propose a new direction for the "lay leader" service (except for Ellen Siegal's service because she's so inspirational) that would be different, new, and original.  As Reconstructionists, we have the ability to "make the old new, and make the new holy".  We don't have to do the service as Rabbi Kram does or as we traditionally have done it on the alternate Friday nights.  Why don't we make it our own and examine what we want to do.  Let's open our minds and think of challenging ourselves to come up with something different, new, and original!

So, on that note, I'd like to have a meeting at TBO on Wednesday, November 4th at 7:30 PM.  We need your input and involvement in making these "lay services" thoughtful and thought-provoking.  There is nothing off the table.  Just bring your ideas and imagination with you.  If you're not able to attend and have something to offer, please email me.

Have you ever left services and thought, "Why don't we do this" or "Why don't we talk about that?"  Let's toss all our suggestions in the ring and let's see what we come up with.  This is your chance to make a difference!

Amy Lomaskin

Please email or phone the Temple office if you'd like to attend this meeting.  We'd like to know about how many to expect.

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN
...continues to grow!
gardening-items.jpg

Beth Or's  ORGANIC  GARDEN needs green thumbs!

Let's put the 'Or' in 'Organic"

Just a few committed diggers/planters/harvesters energize our Garden areas  - you have the infrastructure.  Cultivate your own plot at Beth Or and'ro help our next communal crop of bananas, papayas, other edibles, herbs and medicinals.

Over 20 years ago Beth Orians wer Shomrei Adamah, Guardians of the Earth -- Keepers of the Garden of Eden, aspiring to the highest standards of earth ethics.  We can and will carefully select the veggies and herbs to maximize output, with proven techniques such as companion planting, insect control, etc.  With today's high prices, a garden is economically desirable.  Plus, it is a part of a healthy lifestyle, providing hands-on education and a social communal experience.

Kavanah~ Rabbi Mark:  "...to help build up our people, our institutions and our strength so that we continue to l'takein olam b'malchut Shaddai, 'repair the world under the kingdom of heaven.'  Let's get our hands deliciously "dirty" in this endeavor as we grow and sustain our beloved community."
